My camera takes SDHC cards, and I just wondered what the best card is, class 2, class 4 or class 6 and how do these relate to transfer speed etc.

Thanks in advance

That`s what I thought initially, then I started to look at the prices and some of the class 6 cards were cheaper than some of the class 4 cards, so I was a bit confused, but I suppose this could be branding.

Thanks for clearing it up for me. :)

I have a few cards of different grades, and tbh I can't tell the difference whether I'm using an expensive one of a cheap one when I'm taking pictures. Maybe if you are battering the motordrive you gain a little on the buffer, but most of the time I think there is a bit of the old Emporer's New Clothes going on.

There is a little bit longer to wait downloading them to the 'puter, but not anything that bothers me too much.

So I'd say just buy the cheaper ones and see how you get on.

I have some cheapish ones, I was just wondering if I would notice any difference if I paid more for some. I am not at all unhappy with the ones I have, it`s not as if I have to rattle off many frames in a hurry, so I think I will take your advice and save my dosh.

I got a class 4 4gb sdhc card and it allows my d40 to fire off quick bursts of frames. I have also used a normal 1gb sd card and to be honest it doesn't seem any different. Maybe fractions of a second if that.

however all cards record the image the same its just data on it.

Have a look here for some comparison data.

Wow, interesting reading, so near the bottom of the table a Transcend class 2 is faster than a Kingston class 6.:cuckoo: Now I really am confused. I think I will stick to the ones I have, at least I`m happy with those. (dane elec)
