Hi Guys,

Have just been downloading some pictures from my kids party, viewed some on the camera through out the day then when come to download, some seem to be missing.

Whats this software you can use to recover lost pictures and is it any good, any free ones to download ???

Are the missing files on the card? (visible either in the camera or using a card reader and Windows Explorer)

I've had an odd problem with SD cards that appears to be reasonably common, my laptop won't download files from an SD card above a certain size. Unless the tab on the SD card is switched to Lock. As I say, it's a reasonably common problem and can account for missing files on download. But it's not always an obvious one.

Will look into that, I know I took a certain pic and didn't delete it but when I downloaded the pics it was not there ???

Ok this is strange,

I am using a canon 1d with both a CPF card and SD card, I was taking pictures and the CPF card became full, I thought I had a SD card in as well but didnt so I then put one in and carried on snapping with my shots now going to the SD card.

When i got home I opened up both cards and imported the few on the CPF card on to the SD card so that I could upload them at the same time on to my ipad however, there seems to be some missing which were shot on to the SD card, they have not been deleted but they are not showing up on my PC through any of my card readers so i tried what Alastair said and they have now appered but i cant see, view or download them and now...They have completely gone !!!!

Have tried recovery and nothing, the card is a genuine Sandisk Extreme which is only about 3 months old and has now left me very very confused !!!

I've used Rescue Pro successfully. It used to come packaged with some Sandisk card readers, but I don't know if it still is. It's still available to purchase, but I don't know if there are any freebie versions now.

I've used SanDisk RescuePRo.. I got a disk with a CF card I bought a while ago, it did work!

for free try Zero Assumption, it recovers images for free.
Zero Assumption just did it for me. Picked up more than some of the other undelete tools. The image recovery part is free.

Some cards come with a free licence for their recovery tool. I should have a free copy of the Sandisk tool with one of mine but I've lost the card that came with it with the key. You can get fib and supposedly get the Lexar one by answering a couple of questions but I never got the email with the key. Tried the demo and it seemed good picking up all the correct files with nice previews, but the demo won't extract.

Anyway, ZA worked fine. Had to rename .tif to .nef after though for Nikon files.

And thanks goes to Windows 7 for offering to "fix" my card and promptly deleting everything! :nono:
