I'm posting this more in hope than expectation, but I know that there are a lot of very clever people on here.

I used my D7200 for video yesterday, never had any problems. Tried to move the files to my PC (Windows 10) and got the error message saying that the card needs to be formatted, Re-booted computer, tried a different card reader, now I just get different error messages

Tried with my laptop, also Windows 10, which shows that the drive is working properly but there is nothing on it.

So, I put the card back in the camera and replayed the file that the computers say isn't there . . .

Now, the missing files aren't vital, it's just a nuisance, I can easily format the card and check that it now works, but I would like to recover the footage if at all possible.
If anyone has any suggestions, please bear in mind that I'm old, stupid and computer illiterate . . .

Good thought, but I don't have the right connector

If you right click on the drive, select properties, select tools and click on check Windows should check for errors and, if you are lucky, fix them
I have done this in the past and Windows has reported that no errors were found but the card worked OK afterwards

Have to tried taking a few photos on the card after putting it back in the camera? Personally I'd go and find the right cable and copy off the camera before trying anything else. Then if you muck up the card it's not a problem.

If you access to a Linux machine, you may find that can read the card.

No errors found

It's strange that I don't have the right cable, I seem to have every other cable made since the Enigma computer, and none of my friends have it either. I've ordered one, and should get it on Tuesday.

Shouldn't even need the wire. According to a web search you can transfer files wirelessly from the D7200 to PC using the Nikon Wireless Transmitter Utility.
Probably be really slow but should do the job.

Thanks, I'll look it up

Are you gonna be changing that card Garry? My SanDisk seemed to be playing up when used in my Go Pro back in November. Swapped it out for a new Gigastone card for next holiday

Yes. It will probably be OK once I've either resolved or given up on this problem and formatted it, but I won't take the risk.

I have a couple of transfer cables if you would like one, never used them
PM me your address and I'll send one to you

Great, many thanks:)

An update:)
The connecting cable has now arrived, all of the files were there and are now on my computer. My grateful thanks to @Gremlin for her help and generosity.
