OK so I have another SD card which is the third to go wrong in as many years , this time a sandisk ultra 8gb ! Its not used for photos though i do have an SD as back up in my 5D3 , this card is used for music and swapped between the PC and my Car.

The disk is now coming up write protected Wont allow cut write delete etc commands.

The tab is fine and is off lock, have tried releasing it with the windows CMD method and also downloaded SDformat neither of which has worked.

Any other ideas ? , dont mind trying anything as the card is now defunct unless i can write to it

Cheers
Andrew

Maybe try the free trial of the SanDisk software that comes with the Extreme Pro cards? Someone might be able to PM you a code for this they don't need. Mine expired a while back....

I'm mildly surprised that people don't treat smaller SD cards as essentially large-capacity floppy disks - love 'em while they're working, chuck 'em when they're not, never trust 'em for a second longer than you have to.

Whilst I completely understand wanting to get the thing working, surely it's more efficient to just recover the files off it and buy a new one for six quid off Amazon?

Yes but i like the challenge of seeing if things can be fixed ;)

ps tried the RescuePro sandisk software and it too failed ...

Most SanDisk cards have a decent warranty so you can probably get it replaced - unless it was sourced cheaply and is a fake...

I think the write lock on an SD card is like the old write protect tabs for 3.5" floppies - i.e. it's the drive that looks at whether the volume is write locked or not, and the medium itself doesn't care.

Does your SD card reader work properly with other cards?

If so, the write lock tab on your card might be being pushed into the locked position when you put it in the reader. Perhaps on this card, the write lock tab is a bit floppy.

Missus.

No other cards work fine in the reader in the pc.

Go bored and ripped it apart ...

Dont know quite what i expected to see inside but it was not this lol

My CF card went on the blink, got in touch with Sandisc and they replaced it.
