Just seen on BBC News. Bloke stealing Royal British Legion collecting box from a shop. Missed the actual location but in west country. Nice clear CCTV picture of him, despite the "hoodie". Would like to think that he will be found and just for once the punishment might fit the crime:shake:

:bang: some community service in a rehabilitation unit for injured servicemen would be an idea....

It happens every single year. The RBL Poppy boxes probably receive the highest donation rate (alongside the RNLI) of any charity, which makes them a sought after target.

5 years ago some little scrote stole the collecting tin from inside the chapel at The Royal Hospital Chelsea!

Excellent idea:thumbs: Hope no one suggests a tour in Afghanistan for him, i certainly wouldnt have wanted a piece of garbage like that alongside me.

The story I've seen reported on a series of charity tin thefts in and around Oxford. Oxford id South Midlands, NOT West Country!

wouldn't another minesweeper be handy, tape them to a pole on the front of the landrover and then you'll find out if there are any mines :p

I agree, thats why I didnt suggest such an idea.

Seriously, I do wonder if putting these young offenders in an environment where young men of their own age are suffering, yet still proud of what they have done, and more often than not want to carry on doing it, would have an impact on the offender. I know some will say that they would just steal from the soldiers or whatever, but no matter how young and fit I was, I am not sure I would want to take on a one armed disabled killing machine, never mind the almost recovered ones that would also be around.

Gloucester Road, Bristol.

Only if it was in Afghanistan

By the video footage he's probably familiar with the area!

Wonder why they said Avon and Somerset police were investigating:thinking:

The thief in Bristol has been arrested today.

we had a local scum bag nick one of the poppy tins from a well known store only across the road

no suprise he had death threats and paid all the money back , with his dole money so what did he learn from that

****ing scum

The Bristol box was chained down, the perp used wire cutters!

Indeedy...it's about 5 mins walk up the road from me. All the retailers on the lower bit of Gloucester Road (ie. the nice butchers and fruit and veg shop) have now had to chain their charity tins down as well. Bit sad really...:(

EDIT: According to Avon & Somerset Police he's received an 18-week jail term for three thefts of charity tins over the course of 3 days.

He was resident at one of the homeless hostels so possibly has a drug/alcohol problem. Given that three thefts occured within 3 days, one has to imagine he may have needed money to pay someone.

I can't decide if that's the sadder bit. :( :(

No excuse, pity his dealer got paid, they might have have punished him in a more suitable manner.

Was I making an excuse?

Want to put words in my mouth?

Actually, the point I'm making was that there are underlying reasons for people committing crime. But of course we don't need to worry about that do we? Just lock 'em up or even better just hang 'em right? Good old daily mail vision there.

Many years ago, when I was in charge of a local government office, a security guard (who was collecting cash to put into the van) was shot point blank in the face by a guy with a shotgun, and died almost instantly leaving a new wife (who was pregnant).
I was feeling all sorts of emotions including anger, sadness, and hoped that he would get punished real bad - in fact, he got 5 years.
At the time it happened a female senior social worker told me that it was societies fault, and that it was probably to feed a drug habit - I bet that would have made his wife a whole lot better!
That is the closest I have ever come to hitting a woman, but then she would'nt have felt anything, because where there's no sense there's no feeling.
What I say is apart from being punished these scumbags should be forced to have a vasectomy, (or sterilised in the case of a female) to stop them from creating, plus it would have the added advantage of curbing the population.
Thats it, I've now got it off my chest.

Unless you've had real experience of addiction issues then id say no one here has a clue about the crazy things some people will do to get a fix.

Not that I'm excusing or condoning any actions, a bit like the taxi guy who went on the rampage.. was he in control when the switch flipped in his brain?

Anyway, wandering off topic a touch..

thats not fair on the poles...what have they done.............lol
