How i get around the 'waste' of 'auto-load film cameras and even if doing it 'manually' -- I cut a strip of waste film to the same width as the leader and tape it front and back with a small strip of 'Sellotape' being careful NOT to get it over any perforation hole as shown -- then I have had 40 frames from a 36 exposure film and 28 form a 24 exposure film.

Yep, like that! Also, 4 frames is not to be sniffed at on a roll of 36, and certainly not on a roll of 24! Respectively, that's 111% and 116% usage, which for the cost of a roll is pretty favourable :D

I usually make the extra bit of film a little LONGER than shown --- need to experiment for the first time you do it. Cut off 'sharp corners' too.

Have you found the tape to be in any way problematic, in terms of coming loose before the leader part of the bulk film engages with the sprocket?

haha I like it

No -- never had the tape come loose.
