I recently bought a Panasonic Lumix FX50 digital camera, i have just visited london and have noticed a problem.

whenever i point the camera at a bright object, or which is far away, i get an awful red tints/streaks across the screen of the camera,... i then slightly press the photo button (think this is after it focuses) and the red tints vanish...

the photos come out fine, and looks good on close up shots... but was thinking it doesnt look healthy for a brand new camera...

is this normal or should i request a replacement?

also, when i was taking a picture of london bridge, i pretty much had to point the camera at the sun and take a photo...... would this have damaged my lens?

Not sure tbh, all I can say is that my old fuji digital used to do something similar, mainly under odd lighting, for instance, indoor motorshows, bright lights reflecting on black cars, that kind of thing, used to get blue streaks across the LCD/digital view finder. Never affected the actual pictures, so I put it down to the camera picking up light the human eye couldnt see, but never was sure

Pointing your camer at the sun to take a shot shouldnt damage it at all (I do it ofen) It probably wouldnt be a good idea to leave it pointing at the sun, but for the time it takes to line up a shot etc I dont think it will cause any damage.

The red tints/streaks sound like flare. I have noticed my little IXUS75 does similar. I think it is due to the fact that preview you see is not as high quality as the actually shot taken, and it cant cope with strong lights etc very well. I cant say for sure it isnt a fault, but if it goes when you half press the shutter it would sound like the preview just isnt very good in general (like my little IXUS) :(
