Hi all

Do have a screen protector fitted to your camera??

Just taken delivery of my new 40D this week & wondered if anyone can recommend a screen protector for the 3" lcd? I also wondered if you can you get one for the schoulder lcd too??

I have seen some on ebay, but not sure if they are any good.

Thanks

Richard

I bought a 2.5" LCD screen protector off ebay, I think it was something like £3.20 posted for 3 protective films. You clean the surface, stick them on, and when you want to change them they peel off without leaving any marks at all.

I've had my 2nd one on now for about 9 months and it's not showing signs of peeling off yet.

As for the shoulder LCD, the only thing i can think of that might benifit you the most is to try and buy a fairly big sheet of the protective film, and cut a few pieces out to shape. One for the shoulder LCD, one for the back LCD, and a few spares.

I use these:

I think these screen protectors are something of a con. Canon DSLRs (and probably others too) are fitted with screen protectors in the factory; that "screen" which you are trying to protect is actually itself a protector and the LCD screen is behind it. If you scratch the protector you can buy a replacement for under £10.

No I don't bother with screen protectors.

Why would anyone use a bit of clingfilm, when Nikon provide a proper hard clip-on screen protector ?

clingfilm..?...seriously, I don't care how many millions you can buy for 2p:razz:

Ok I'm a wuss..I have one that i bought from Ebay and in the pack there was a protector for both LCDs.

:)

Another vote for Invisible Shield from www.zagg.com from me. Brilliant on Ipods, Blackberrys etc. too. Also quite reasonably priced - buy in US dollars, shipped from within UK with no delivery charge.

I have the ones that came with my Nikons on, in fact, I don`t think they have ever been off......:suspect:

The GGS ones are much better than the Nikon ones, they are scratch proof, more transparent, thinner, and easier to clean.

The original glass screens are so cheap to replace... its better to have the real screen showing and see your images at their best... if you need to replace its easy peasy and costs about £10 or so.

I am another one for not wasting money for a screen protector. Canon will charge you less then £15 to replace the plastic screen cover, and can do it while you wait if you are a CPS member. I see apsolutely no reason to use a screen protector at all.

Janice, maybe i`m wrong, but I don`t judge any picture by how it looks on the LCD, unless it is a real howler and there are many...........:D,I only judge them when I get them on my PC............

Never fitted one to any of my cameras - never scratched a screen yet, whether it be a camera, an ipod, mobile phone etc etc

Well i dont JUDGE them but it certainly helps to see if its in focus when you aren't looking thru clingfilm! ;)

You can take another on the spot then...without finding out too late when you look at the pc.

i have never had a problem looking through the protective screen at images and they show and display as they would without the protector, now i dont go into loads of details with shots, look zoom in to see if its sharp, colours are ok atc and thats it, onto the next.

Manly scratches for the win! Phwoaaaar!!! Solid, as a rock, is me! :D

My 'old' D2Xs didn't come with one, and after about 2 1/2 years it still has no scratches at all - these things are being sold under 'scare' tactics

Did anyone see that rubber armour you can buy for your cameras now at FOCUS? Totally :nuts::nuts:

Lol. The GGS ones are made from tempered glass and are FAR harder than the plastic clip on ones. I use one on my D300 (Infact I use 2 as it comes with a small one for the top screen as well) and despite me being quite rough with the camera it hasn't developed as much as a hairline scratch. As they are glass it also makes the screen look much better than when using the plastic cover. The GGS screen is a product I really can't fault.

Im not sure if the screen hardness differs between the D2Xs and the D40X, but I managed to get quite a few small, but annoying scratches on the LCD screen on my D40X through it hitting my belt etc.

Didn't it come with a screen protector ???? I seem to remember mine did.:)
That would have been the peel off polythene protector you are meant to remove before use.

I use the temperd glass ones on my D300.

Much clearer than the plastic protector.

Bestskinsever.com its the same stuff as the invisible schield but a lot cheaper. I have it on my 400d, my mobile and my mp3 player, its fantastic. Screen is just as clear and bright and as hard as you try you can't scratch it. Doesn't come off when you don't want it to either. But when its time to remove it leaves no residue. It comes from the states but delivery is normally quite quick.

You could try calling one of the car paint protection film companies like armourfend or venture shield - thye will normally send a small sample with an information pack - its quite often the right size to cover bothe the top and rear LCDs. Its self adhesive, and in its proper use is applied with a wet soap type solution and then squeegeed to remove the solution, leaving the adhesive to bond to the paint. For small areas such as camera screen it easy to apply directly

Its 7 layer hardered glass, not clingfilm.

Scratch proof too.

Doh!! :bonk:

Do we have idiotic post awards here, this "clingfilm" one is a shoe-in :)

Yes, that is blatantly obvious from the pictures you paste...
The link you so kindly supply is 5 posts late.
"clingfilm" is an exaggeration of the flimsy stick-on "protectors", send me your email I'll PayPal you a sense of humor.
Personally, I wouldn't stick anything to anything, clip on protectors work just fine.
You can do what you like.

I thought the clip on ones were just fine until I tried the GGS ones. Seriously they work amazingly and make the screen so much clearer to look at. Don't knock it until you've tried it.

:agree:

The plastic ones get marked these glass ones are amazingly clear.

Ok then, you lot have convinced me, for a tenner, i`ll try one of these out......:)

Never used one and had my 30D now for 18 months without a scratch, it lives in my bag or against my face so it's not likely to get scratch.

I'm not knocking them, but if it ain't broke, I won't be fixing it.
I really really really, don't want to stick anything over the existing screen.
Clip-on ones do scratch, mine hasn't but next week, who knows ?, they don't sit close enough and dust gets behind them, sometimes you can break the clips as you remove them, so they aren't perfect, but better than sticky stuffs imo.
Have you been able to remove them without too much aggro ?

The glass ones are removable and leave no residue.

I'm another fan of the GGS glass protectors, even if the LCD screen is only £10 to buy, the GGS one is less than half that delivered, so it still makes economic sense ;)
