What's the best automatic but cheapish way to get your screen calibrated I have a MacBook and always find when I edit pictures and then look on another device it's slightly different to what I saw.

Also say I calibrated my screen and it'd correct and I adjust my photo to the how it should look would it print 100% correct if sent away to be printed?

Thanks

Apple supply with Snow Leopard a rough and ready application to calibrate your screen. You'll find it under System Prefs> Monitor>Color> Calibrate.

Now it's not the best way of doing it but it does give some form of consistency. However the real way is with a proper screen calibration device such as Spyder or i-One . However these don't come cheap. Bear in mind though if the other viewing device itself isn't calibrated then you'll still get a different representation.

Another problem is that in most cases laptop screens , even those on a Mac don't always calibrate well. They are just not designed that way. I speak from experience . My MacBook Pro has an excellent screen ( for a laptop) but compared to my iMac and other monitors when calibrated it still has a warmish balance to it. Not a lot but you can see it. If you know it's there it's fine, but I wouldn't use it to produce colour calibrated images.

If you want to ensure you get good colours from printing services, choose one that supplies a reference image and file. This way you can check how close you can get to final result

Thank you I might have a quick go at the built in calibration software and see how that goes.

Also do you know who/where supply printing reference images? How would I check my image against it to get a good result?

Thanks

Have a word with your chosen printer(s) and see if they will provide, alternatively try Peak Imaging in Sheffield

Would you lot not recommend places like truprint or photobox? They are the ones I used to use when printing 6x4's off of family photos.

Thanks

Chappers said it all really. I found my MacbookPro even with the Spyder3 limited in what could be achieved compared to my 30" IPS panel.

Is it just colours off or is it a darkness issue? And issue of old was that the Mac gamma was different than PC's which can cause a bit of a difference as well.
