I tried to convert a 16 bit to an 8 bit and got this message.
I know what it means but how do I fix it, have no idea where the scratch disc is .
Thanks

You will find where your scratch disk (in photoshop), under edit..preferences..performance....scratch disk.
It will give the location of the scratch disk.

If the scratch disk is the used solely as a scratch disk (for example a separate physical disk, or a partition within a disk), you can delete all the files within the partition ( photoshop temp files.)
It would be worth making your scratch disk bigger also (I use a 10gig partition just as a scratch disk)

From adobes help files:

For best performance, scratch disks should be on a different drive than any large files you are editing.

Scratch disks should be on a different drive than the one used for virtual memory.

RAID disks/disk arrays are good choices for dedicated scratch disk volumes.

Drives with scratch disks should be defragmented regularly

:thankyou:
Thanks Les, that sorted that for me :)
ps I now know what is needed but I can't find the temp folder in photoshop.
Also I found the scratch disk thingy in preferences, can I make a folder on a seperate h/d and call it say scratch_disc and point it to that in the preferences window ?

the temp files are called Photoshop Temp34232252 (the number is variable)

if you do a search, you'll find them somewhere on your drives.

I don't think you can call a folder scratch disk and use that?

What I did was create a separate partition (K) on one of my hard drives and use that exclusively as a scratch disk.
