Planning a short 3 night stay next April.

Planning to fly to Inverness and hire a car.

Looking for advice on accomodation and must do's for thhe Applescross / Shieldag area please.

Loch Maree is lovely if you get the weather. Some nice islands which can be very atmospheric if the weather is good. You get the sun setting over the northern tip of Skye when in Applecross, across the water, so evening there is great as long as its not p***ing it down. The drive north to Shiledaig has loads of good spots. Good luck!

Loch Clair can be good. Agree with Hertsman that the drive from applecross to shieldaig is full of wow got to stop moments. Theres the red roof house shot looking over upper loch torridon.

Enjoy yourself when there

Can't help with accommodation but if you are going to Applecross I suggest you also take in Glen Torridon and do the route anti-clockwise (in my opinion this is more spectacular than the clockwise route), ie

Kinlochewe - Torridon - Shieldaig - around the coast road to Applecross - Pass of the Cattle - Loch Kishorn. From there you can go north back to Shieldaig or east and south to Loch Carron and possibly further south to Loch Alsh/Eilean Donan and Loch Duich.

You can find B&Bs pretty much on the spot along most routes in the north; they should have plenty of vacancies that time of year.

The place is great and I would firstly follow the weather more than any "forced" to do list.

Ok guys.
Its now booked and paid for.

End of April for three nights, staying at the Torrdon Inn.
Fly in to Inverness and driver across.

Let me know what you think.....

A very good central location that will let you explore a good few areas.

The drive from Inverness to Torridon via Kinlochewe is excellent.

A few sites that might be useful -

Walkhighlands http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/ It has descriptions, maps and photos of walks all over Scotland from gentle strolls to mountain ascents

Whistle Stop Cafe at Kinlochewe https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Resta...and_Cromarty_Scottish_Highlands_Scotland.html - basic food, but good

The Potting Shed in Applecross Walled Garden - http://www.applecrossgarden.co.uk/cafe.cfm Excellent food in a sheltered garden.

If you like sea food have a look at the Kishorn Seafood Bar http://www.kishornseafoodbar.co.uk/

You should be able to drive up north past Ullapool from where you are staying quite easily. Have a look at Achnahaird Beach (go as the tide is falling to see amazing patterns on the shallow sloping sand, and the salt marsh is excellent too), Stac Pollaidh mountain (easily climbable), Reid. Plenty of other superb spots up that way.

Torridon is of course amazing.
