Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year (SLPOTY) results are out

An interesting selection. Some I love, some I don't like at all.

I love the winners Glamaig shot, like the Loch Pityoulish shot, hate the Glen Affric shot.

Love chris Swanns Yesnaby Castle and storm light- both these are exquiste. I don't like the motion blur in the grasses in the luskentyre shot but otherwise, like it.

Guy Richardsons Courrour bothy is epic - the rest in that 10 I am a bit meh about. Neil Barrs Rassay shot appeals in a quirky way and Neil McDade's Kilchurn shot is ok but I prefer that shot with sunshine

John Richardsons image in the John Muir prize stands out too,

I got one through to shortlist, but it didn't make the book.

I snuck in with a highly commended in "Your View" and was down to RAW file submission on the overall. That's everyone's Christmas presents sorted anyway :-)

Well done to all. Nick works hard and takes great shots so well deserved.

I do wish LPOTY awarded the winner based on portfolio though like SLPOTY does - I think it's a much fairer judge of talent, and awards consistency over one great shot and lots of average ones.

Indeed - what I like about the winning panel and to an extent the runners up panel is the variety and style of scene and the moods of each image. A nice diverse varied panel and I think on the whole worthy winners. I'm sad I only made the short list and not the book - but hey ho - its a competition.

I've just round to looking at this. It's a rather rewarding (no pun intended) image to look at. Perhaps it is the framing and soft gentle light. It's unmistably summer and it's good to see a nice summer image do so well.

Many thanks for the kind words Steve. Some of the framing was due in part to the fact I had my springer in tow so I wasn't able to get right up to the edge in case she knocked over the tripod.:eek: We returned to the same spot a couple of weeks ago for the winter version (minus the dogs) ;)

I think it makes it though. I know where you've taken it from and although it's not as well a shot an angle as you know where, it still has been done, but none that I've seen are as good as yours. There is a real quality to it.
 
I do quite enjoy the Crail seascape shot. I have seen that shot several times (and taken it myself) but none with such lovely light.
 
I bought 4 SLPOTY books, one for me and the rest for relatives (that's Christmas sorted out!).

Very impressive production, lovely quality printing and paper. And a whole host of gorgeous pictures to gawp over. There are a lot from places I've never heard of - I'll have to get the map out and see what I've been missing. There are also a few "meh" pics in there, but they are quite rare and on the whole the books is really rather lovely.
 
Sounds good Andy. I've only just read on Twitter about 20 minutes that someone had received their book. Mine didn't arrive this morning so I'll need to keep an eye out for the postman tomorrow.

As hoped my copy arrived this morning and I have to say I very much agree with what you've said Andy. Quality images and printing. It's nice to see my image in there amongst some stunning images. Can't wait to get up to Scotland again.
