Anyone bought this book? I am considering it as a first time user of Lightroom, will it tell me any more than I can get from tutorials on the 'net?

I've come across some good (I think) tutorials from Julieanne Kost and and Lightroom Labs sites showing how to get started properly.

Does Scott Kelby apart from getting you started show any other tricks/tips on the tweaking of photos in LR3 that may not be found so easily on the net. I have his photoshop CS3 book which I found useful in some ways, I wondering if his Lightroom 3 book will be worth the price.

I bought it from Amazon when I purchased LR3 and haven't found it all that helpful - perhaps because I was used to LR2 or perhaps because I've not taken the time to study it in depth.

There are some good tutorials on the net such as Lightroom Killer Tips and various bits on YouTube; much depends on whether one finds it easier to learn from books or from video tutorials.

I haven't got the book myself but I just borrowed it from a mate.
It starts with importing and storing your pics, then it goes over the library modual (inc video importing) it covers tethered shooting. Next is file naming and import preferences.
Viewing is then followed by a whole chapter on the library mode. Thats followed by customising the interface then on to the develop mode covering all the tools in pretty good depth.
Problem photofixing comes next, followed by exporting. Adding watermarks, emailing from LR, publishing to flickr/facebbok, further editing in photoshop, black and white, split toning, come next.
Slideshow is next followed by printing and web gallery. This is followed by Scotts portrait workflow, finally theres his 7 point system.

Now to be fair I haven't read this just skimmed through, but it seems fairly comprehensive, if your new to LR it sould prove very usefull, if your a more experienced user it's probably a usefull reference guide, I picked up a few tips just skimming through (I'm going to have a proper read now I have it here)

I use this book and would certainly recommend it.

LR3 is a very simple and easy to master and you can easily find lots of god tutorials online, buts its always handy to have a reference guide to fall back upon if you face any stumbling blocks and need any guidance. this book serves that purpose very well

These days with a lot of books on amazon you ca get a sample via kindle for free. I am using this before I buy anything these days. It's just a case of going to to the Kindle version and then requesting the free sample.

Have a lend of the Martin Evenings book for LR2 (I'm using LR3) and it's proving pretty useful, obviously would be even more so if I had the book for the right version!

i had never used lightroom until v3, won Scott Kelby's book in a competition and it's transformed my use of lightroom.

It's very comprehensive, easy to understand and well laid out. Theres a lot that you probrably already know either intuitively or from trial and error, but it's great for finding out shortcuts, full functionality and general reference.
