Hi

Just wondering where is the best place to go in scotland last week of February. child is away with school for the week and we were thinking of going there but unsure as to where is the best place. Can anyone help. Thank you. :)

Hi Sophie,

I would like to suggest Pitlochry to you. There's a wealth of things to do, see and photograph in around the town.

Enjoy!

That looks absolutely lovely, thank you :)

I'm tempted to say Glasgow Airport and on to Tenerife , but Pitlochry or just about anywhere in that general area will be nice -it's a lovely part of the country

Tongue.

Right up North, beautiful and not far from Durness and Cape Wrath, (which I will get to one day). Can thoroughly recommend the Ben Loyal hotel if you need somewhere to eat and/or stay.

I've just seen Wellwood House accomodation for £53.00 per night per person, would you say this is reasonable or not

OMG that is absolutely stunning, price is really good!! look at the views, getting excited now

I wish I could afford to :D

Ah, that statement may rule out Pitlochry. Have a good look around for bargains, but I can recommend Shearing's at Pitlochry Hydro for a reasonable priced hotel.

There are some good deals going around for hotels just now, credit crunch and all that malarky...shop carefully ;)

I just showed this to my hubby, he nearly had a fit when I told him it was a 10 hour drive , I need to keep looking, :D

Thank you. I've just been looking, there is a guest house (Derrybeg in Pitlochry) which is £25.00 per person if we stay 3 or more nights, didn't think that were that bad ;)

That's an excellent price, go for it and book it now. I stay in Aberdeen during the working week and I pay £40 per night B&B. You won't regret it and do a bit of research before going. Falls of Bruar, Killicrankie, Rannoch, Queen's View, etc., etc. the ops are endless.

Edit: Before you get to Pitlochry, it's worth calling in at The Hermitage just (1/4 mile) past Dunkeld.

Oh Yes, you cannot fail :)

Even Mr. Sophie will be impressed

This is a fantastic thread. Thank you macros for starting it, and to all who've replied here.

I just did an AA route planner thingi and found it is just over 13 hours from Swansea up to Tongue. A bit too far for a one day trip; so I figure a 6 day round trip but may well be worth it, instead of going to London over the New Year  .. now just have to figure out if the expenses are better spent on new gear instead of this

This forum is making me spend my money on more things than just photo. stuff :bang:

lol

I was planning on getting myself a 70-200VR; now I am not too sure if that's the right choice, or going up North is money better spent! A motorhome may just be what I need, as I may find myself evicted sooner than I thought :p
