It appears to be breaking news on a couple of sites this morning

there maybe many disappointed fans out there today

Mixed emotions when I read this earlier - I've never really liked him much but, for all his lack of charisma and occasional lapses into cheating, he was a sublime driving talent and it would have been interesting to see how he compared with the current crop of young drivers.

I read over the weekend that he was paying out of his own pocket to test the 2007 Ferrari car at Mugello. Now I know he's not short of a few quid but that struck me as being parsimonious in the extreme by Ferrari when he was stepping in to do them a favour!

Yeah but on the basis of agreeing to drive he got a 2 year extension to his current contract, which i am sure covered the cost involved in testing, as i dont think your'l find Ferrari would have been able to show any signs of being involved in him testing the car due to the current in season ban. The car he drove can be driven by any-one who has enough money to pay to hire it.

Aw shame, I was really looking forward to seeing what he would be able to do, see what that current ferrari was actually like in his hands.

I didn't know about the contract extension, and I know that he couldn't test the current car (it was amusing to see Ferrari throw their toys out of the pram after Williams and Toro Rosso vetoed Schumacher getting a special dispensation to test the current car :D) but surely Ferrari could have waived the charge to drive the 2007 car - it's not like there was any ban on MS driving that nor any need to pretend to charge a market rate to allow MS to do so

Well, now Valencia have sold all the tickets to the MS fans, they can afford to refund the Alonso fans.
