I have been approached by a few mums from local schools, last year they wernt happy at all with they childrens school photos and asked if they are poor (in their eyes) this year would I redo them for them... now im a bit apprehensive as
(a) I dont want to step on fellow photographers shoes here,
(b) I dont know the rules/permissions of photographing children in their school uniforms (do you need permission from the school?)

Has anyone else had this happen to them?
 
IMHO you are overthinking it.
Ignore the other Tog, if his work ain't good enough thats his problem it's not like you are advertising it.

Would you ask Man United for permission to take a picture of a kid in a Rooney Shirt? No so you don't have to ask the school.

Plus 2 - a number of photographers run 'not a school photo' promotions at this time of year

Why is this not in the Biz section? you posted correct the first time.

Your asking biz question not asking how swing a torch on a string with long exposure......
and make your own joe 90 orb logo.......

If you get asked, do it.

You dont need permissions to photograph school kids......

No rules...... things to ask:

What's the school role?
Do they need a SIMS disc for their data base?
What commission do they expect?
Free staff photos.
Prospectus/web shots = free

Do they want multi pose proofcards?
Chromakey or High Key White back drops?
Display boards...

how many classes and what time frame to be shot in.... most want you done by lunchtime...

Normal Primary of is 8 classes and takes 2 hours to shoot multipose......
