School Photography - post shoot proofing etc

I started doing some photography for a couple of schools a while back, covering sports days and performances, and after getting some great feedback am beginning to get Schools booking me for full portrait shoots.

after a few little shoots I've Just completed my first 'major' shoot doing an entire school - went really well I think, very pleased. Couple of steep learning curves but nothing major.

Thing is... if I now want to go further and promote this as a side of my business, what's the best way forward with regards to proofing / online ordering? I was going to use an 'order envelope' for the time being but think I need to start thinking about this before I go much further. The company that used to do the school's photography had codes all over the place, is there automated software for this that will integrate with Lightroom etc?

Thanks for any suggestions / insights :)

That's superb, very very helpful thank you, lots of reading to do now! I was just reading back on a few things you've posted in the past on School stuff... I have absolutely no idea how you manage to get the job done in the timeframes you do, unless it's all down to the preemptive work and coordination with the school. I only had about 120, 4 poses of each to do and it took 3 hours with zero time for all the 'niceties' that parents seem to expect like putting them in clean clothing and brushing their hair lol!
 
did a Primary last Weds in Manchester. Emma was out shooting and 2 freelancers i use have given up photography all together. My main freelancer was on hols and another let me down as a replacement by calling sick.

So i had to shoot 480 to sims(names) multipose and 170 were sibling shots on top. i finished 10 to 3. oh and staff ports.

Usually 2 togs and finished by lunch time. 16 classes. I could not feel my right side....

never again. next week 750 primary to chromakey and half again siblings........ 21 classes 3 tog shoot.......

We take out any food spills.....

If you dont get a smile, you dont get a sale..... Simple as that.
 
wtf... that's ~27 seconds per PUPIL, and you multiposed them?!! I'd love to see you shoot sometime if you need an assistant, get a feeling much could be learned lol.

I've had no trouble getting a smile - in fact rather chuffed that out of all the poses of all the pupils, I only had a half dozen shots total without good grinnage - but there simply wasn't time for brushing their hair etc that I hear so many parents moan about.

If you ever need any help with weekend stuff you let me know, I'm not that far from you.

I can't do much in the week, as you know already, I still can't summon the courage to go full time. :p

And most schools do monday to friday :)
