Hello,

Just curious where you guys send your colour trannys to be scanned or if you do them yourself.
I have been looking at bpdphotec to scan mine but im not sure what the results would be like. Has anyone used these, or could recommend another service which gives high quality scans.
I would also be interested to see what sort of size you have printed your work you have had scanned

Thanks

Hey :) i use our college's Epson V700 (which comes with 5x4 holders) for both my trannies and B&W work and have found it very impressive.

Scan wise at full optical res it produced a 24 bit 1GB file and comfortable will print at A2 at 300dpi (the biggest id done so far) and beyond.

I scan my 5x4 film on an Epson V700. I limit the resolution to 1200DPI, which gives a 20+ inch print. I haven't scanned colour trannies - only B&W negs. The results are good. Very good. So much so I doubt I'll be using my De Vere enlarger much in the future,

Cheers

V700 here too.

Very capable scanner that I've used for transparencies and negatives.

Takes a bit of fiddling sometimes to get the height right for the best focus but worth the effort.

£12 p/scan is pretty reasonable but ultimately depends on the output and skill of the operator. You'd only need to get 30 scanned to be up to the price of the v700.

Biggest I've printed thus far has been a3+ but I'm having some biggies done next month so I'll let you know how I get on!

Theoretically, as the scans are 14700x11000 odd pixels, at 240 ppi it would give a print 4foot x 5foot.

I don't think it would look very good close-up but who views a print that size with their nose in it?

right, thanks ghandi. look forward to hearing how you get on. 4x5 ft would be more than big enough for me. Just a matter of space, i struggle to get things in my room already, i dont think id have room for a scanner!!
Have you got any trannys from scotland scanned yet? Id be interested to see the results.
Cheers
