scanning photos/slides

There's lots of info and threads in the Film & Conventional section, a quick search should bring all the pros and cons of scanning. Just avoid the cheap 'scanners' offered by the likes of Maplins and on Amazon, they're no more than a webcam in a box and are worse than useless.

Like Nick said, the cheapo ones aren't that good (being kind!) BUT they might be good enough to quickly digitise a large collection for sharing over the web/farcebook etc.. "Proper" scanning and processing the results is time consuming and mind numbing, even using a flatbed rather than a dedicated film scanner.

I know that it is laborious but, if you really want the best results possible, then a dedicated 35 mm slide/film scanner is the solution.
