I'm helping my mother have a bit of an online presence for her clothing shop.

She gets sent large catalogues of the newest ranges from which customers can choose designs

some of these catalogues are rather large so when it comes to scanning the images they're rather grained the detail in the embroidery is lost.

I've contacted the suppliers but they werent able to assist

so is there anything i can do to bring back in the detail??

though its only a facebook presence it still doesnt show the detail of how intricate the stitching is as it would in the catalogue.

any advice is appreciated. thank you.
 
First, I'd check on the copyright situation: does she have permission to reproduce these shots? Then I'd look at the scanning. The shot looks partially blurred as well as grainy - not what I'd expect from a catalogue shot. Re-photographing the photo may give a better result.
 
Yeah the wholesale suppliers from india have said I can put these pics on my own site as its in their interests too

and i'd agree with the blur comment - the catalogue was perfectly still and nothing to suggest why its come out blurred.

what sort of settings would you recommend to rephotograph the picture? how can i minmise the shine from the page and still get the detail in there.
 
Yes, I would address your scanning.

You need to minimise your workflow as presumably, this will happen regularly.

How and with what are you scanning the images ?
 
Ask the folk in India to email the files? That'd do it. Reproducing glossy photos is not easy. Most common method (as far as I know) is to use a copy stand
 
If you cannot get the original files from the magazine or suppliers in India (someone should have them) then maybe try scanning at a higher resolution then if you have photoshop reduce the size of the pictures a bit at a time using "bicubic sharpener" and see if that helps at all. With this picture it looks as if only the sleeve is in focus to start with?
 
I've asked them to either link them or email and they say they dont do that.

I've looked around the internet and other retailers they're all in the same boat.

with regards to teh scanning its a standard samsung printer/scanner combo. the originals are pretty much in focus though the books are quite large than a3 at times.
 
Are you able to sacrifice a copy of the book/brochure and cut the pages out so that you can get them to lie perfectly flat in the scanner?

You should be able to use the scanner software to adjust the quality of the scanner's output. Does it have an 'advanced settings' mode? Our little Epson scanner/printer does

I'd be tempted to buy one, get someone (wife maybe) to model it while you take a fresh pic, then send it back or put it down to a marketing expense.
