Scanning old textured photos

Hi,

I'm scanning some old family photos and a lot of them are printed on a textured paper. The scans come up looking like this:

Can anyone help with either scanner settings or software workflow to get rid of the annoying dimples?

In Photoshop the median filter will soften that but atthe expense of softening the image. There is no eay to recover that.

Try color range in photoshop, and adjust fuzziness to select skin tone, use surface blur to blend dots.

I have used the earlier version of the plugin with some success and I have seen some really good results on DPreview (Digital Darkroom forum - do a search).

That's the sort of thing I was trying but I was hoping there was a way to do it without the massive increase in softness.

Try color range in photoshop, and adjust fuzziness to select skin tone, use surface blur to blend dots.

I'll have a quick go at this - I suspect this in conjunction with the iFFT filter might work well.

Damn, the FFT plug in only works on 32 bit Photoshop and I'm running 64 bit. I found a link to a 64 bit version but it doesn't work. Guess I'll have to find time to install the 32 bit version somewhere!
