I have a fair number of old prints, some B&W some colour, that I would like to scan and reprint for a display for a memorial concert that we are holding for my father next month. Some are quite small (MF contact size upwards).

As far as equipment goes, I have a reasonable Epsom flat-bed scanner ( the model no. escapes me) and a R800 Printer.

On the software front I'm currently running CS3 and Lightroom.

Any top tips and techniques for the process, or other utilities that are recommended?

I did something similar a year ago.

I'm not an expert in cs3 at all, however I found that if I applied the standard greyscale adjusment I then I got a uniformity of b&w across the prints. I also used some noise and sharpen in rough handfuls and the clean-up was impressive - noise>dust and speckles meant I didn't have to do too much by hand.

Do ensure your scans are square, and that the glass and prints are clean, as the ones supplied to me weren't!
