Scanning a slide

I have 2 rare slides of my parents. Very tiny, about 1/2inch each side. I've tried scanning on my normal scanner, but not very good at all.
I don't have a slide scanner, but wondered if I can still utilise my own in any way.
Any tips guys?

i'd ask this in the Film and Conventional section - there may be someone who's got a film scanner who could do you a favour It's pretty near impossible to get a decent scan of a slide from conventional scanners, but something like a Canoscan 8800/Epson V500 will make an excellent job of it.
