Looking advice for a scanner to cope with slides and negatives as well as the normal photos! Any recommendations? Price in and around £100 so not looking to spend too much, if no one know one for less then even better!

The Epson V500 was just over your budget, although the price seems to be far higher at the moment... not sure why. I've definitely seen used V500s go for around your budget though, that's pretty much the one to get for your price range.

Thanks freecom2, might a bit too much, priced around 160plus

Unless you start looking second hand your not going to really get a scanner of any decent quality for £100, for gods sake though don't go and buy one of those '5mp film scanner' or similarly titled products like sold in Maplins, PC World etc as their way overpriced for just a webcam mounted in a box and the decidedly way way inferior quality they produce compared to a proper scanner.

You might want to look for a used Epson Perfection 4490 Photo which was the predecesor to the V500 and several people on here use to good effect. Their price varies a lot however but is usually under £100.

Resurrecting an old thread, but I'm in a similar position. At the weekend the film head blew on my venerable Epson 2450 so I need a replacement. The 2450 was capable of scanning 5x4 negs but the V500 only seems to do 6cm width. Is there anything out there that will do 5x4 for a reasonable price, or should I just hit ebay for another 2450?

if you were happy with the 2450 getting another might not be a bad idea

i still have the 2450 photo scanner and cannot justify getting it replaced it still does a fine job of the bits i scan in ( which is not much nowadays ) i would imagine there peanuts now compared to the original price

I found a 4990 on the bay for £120. Does 5x4 and a decent job.

Sounds good. I'd prefer to go for something a bit newer than the 2450 as it is/was rather slow. I'll check the bay... thanks for the tip :)
