Scammed and so angry with myself

I was scammed for £500 , A buyer came to my house to view and check a Sony digital camera and lens , Said it was for his partner who made hand made jewellery but could not afford a professional photographer to do her on line photos , Loved the camera and asked if he could use my computer to do a paypal transfer directly into my paypal account , This was done , I looked in my PayPal account and could see £500 ( Status COMPLETE ) so I gave him the camera , Job done , He shook my hand and thanked me
Two days later came the email from PayPal telling me they hade reclaimed the £500 from my accound due to " Unauthorised use of the PayPal users account " I tried to re claim the money and got nowhere as they said I did not sent it to a registered users address so buyer beware , If collected or meet up in person

FWIW I use PayPal a lot for online (not social media) purchase but only for small value items where it’s very convenient and avoids lengthy form filling where firms otherwise want you to create an account for a one off purchase. I also use it for small donations to Patreon. I think it has its uses but would not trust them for anything major.
I’ve bought a few things on this forum but it always worries me when I see people asking for PayPal Gift which IMNSHO is an undesirable practice.
