SB900 gurus please.....

Can anyone shed any light shake on this one? Im using the pop up of my d200 to remote operate my sb900 which works fine. Ive also got an old sb28 that im trying to get going. I know the sb28 wont work with the CLS or any kind off TTL but I dont want that from it, I just want it to flash at manual power. Ive got some cactus V4 in my bag so Ive put receiver on the SB28. I first put the transmitter on my camera via the PC connection but Ive found that with the pop-up up it doesnt fire the PC connection. With the pop up down the sb28 operates via the cactus but as soon as the pop-up comes up it doesnt work. Next Ive tried using the PC connection on the sb900 to fire the triggers. With the sb900 in remote mode my d200 fires via the pop up but the triggers dont fire. If I press the test button on the Sb900 everything works, it flashes itself and also the sb28 goes. When I take a shot with the camera the pop up triggers the 900 but the triggers dont go???? Is there any way around this??

a solution would be to set the sb900 to optically slave (SU4 mode) and fire the 28 with the radio slave

how would I fire the 28 though? I tried the 900 in master and remote and the PC port never fired, only when I press the test button? thats the only way I can see of getting the radio trigger to work but it just doesnt fire when the 900 gets triggered by my pop up?

you turn the pop up off, fire the 28 with the radio trigger, then the sb900 fires off the 28 with its built in slave (no cls just SU-4)

I would think the only way to do that would be to use an external optical trigger on the 28

The only problem with using CLS with an opically-triggered slave is that the pre-flash will set the SB-28 off before the main exposure.

erm, a firefly would (I hate them as they are a pita) they're an optical trigger designed to come with ttl preflash, you teach it what flash it should sync with then it does that, alastairb uses them for caving but I think has migrated to radio now

AFAIK the SB28 has an SU4 mode as well. Just put that in SU4 mode and it should work (saying that you might have problems with it firing on the preflash though...)
