SB800s on eBay for £199 or best offer

The SB-800 is a good unit Anna - a bit more wellie than the SB-900.

How much was your offer?

Anna - they have 7 available and you seem to be the first buyer. You could phone them up and ask them to send you the best of the 7.

They probably won't have all the units in the one location, more than likely they will be shipped from whichever branch had them as rentals.

It's well known the 800 is superior to the 900.
You've been able to buy a new 900 cheaper than a used 800 for a while.

Really? I was going to get a 900 next week, is the 800 really that much better? Most online reviews seem in favour of the 900. The extra bulk doesn't bother me that much.

The guide number for the SB900 is 1/16 stop bigger than the SB800, or do you mean something else?

No, that's what I meant.

38/125 for the 800 and 34/111.5 for the 900 (ISO100, 35mm).
53/174 for the 800 and 48/157.5 for the 900 (ISO200, 35mm).

Not much in it - but still a bit.:)

Still worth a call methinks. Wherever they are Anna should have 1st dibs on the best of the 7.

Ah yes, my figures where wrong, think I got them off Ken Rockwell. I'll have to think about picking up a second hand 800 then, the money saved will get me a manfrotto tripod.

I bet they'll be ex-rental stock from nottingham and liverpool branches that are closing, and will be physically at the milton keynes depot that operates their web and ebay sales.

And godammit, I *do* need another 800 or 900... not too keen on stumping the cash right now mind :(

As for power - dunno bout you, but I can't remember the last time I use a speedlight at full power... if I need kick, the monoblocs come out...

I am quite pleased with my offer, I didnt want to get a 900 because I'm saving for some new glass and also because I've got a Rayflash adapter and it needs an 800. Currently have an SB600 and a YN something.

Great idea about asking for best one, will give it a full test when I receive it.

Good luck Anna - let us know how it turns out.

PS. If you don't like it, send it back.

Really? The cheapest new SB900 on CPB is near enough £300, are you saying people are paying more than that for a used SB800?

I guess it has actually been a while since I looked so things might have changed now but I'm sure one of my mates was looking for a used 800 recently and had to settle for a new 900 as it was the cheaper option.

I got an 800 several years ago for about £180 then went to get another one about a year later and couldn't afford it, the 600s were then going for the same as I had paid for my 800 previously.

At this point in time the 900s were definitely cheaper than the 800s. I remember that because I could have just about afforded a 900 but an 800 was way out of my budget at the time.

I don't think the SB900 has ever been cheaper than around the £270 mark, new. There was a point in time where used 800s were going for about a tenner less than a new 900 on Ebay though:cuckoo:

that's fleabay though, people are idiots. When I bought my S5 pro, the very same day as I walked into calumet and bought one brand new, someone bought a year old one with 20k clicks.... for £25 more than I paid for mine!

going rate for 800's is £200 or thereabouts though :/

Love my SB-800 and although I also love my SB-28s, a bit of CLS wouldn't go amiss when I'm working quickly and can't be bothered to set up receivers etc. In a fit of madness just put £180 in (what I would have been willing to pay) as an offer and got an immediate acceptance....

....would be interested to know how low you can go, although if it's £30-£40 less then I paid I'll kick myself :D

Looks like there will be an SB-28 and an SB-80DX going up for sale soon to cover my mad moment of spending :)

5 offers on the last 3 mines being considered it says
its definitely not worth £180 IMHO that's what i paid for immaculate with all the bits and no scratches

Well done to you then ;)

SB800s for SB600 money aren't coming thick and fast.... £180 is a fair price for what is essentially the best flashgun around for that money - I suppose buying used is all about what the buyer is prepared to pay, not what it's actually worth. ;)

I picked up 2 SB800s for £150 each, Drew Gardener was selling them cheap via Twitter (see it does have some uses!)

Yeah man, he's an absolute mentalist nutter - but in a good way, and his work reflects it. The phrases 'so we rented these badgers' or 'well in the UK you can't just hire pigs, so we flew to poland and rented this trailer full' will stick in my mind forever......

You see any of his Zebra stuff? It's all under wraps atm :(

Yeah saw some of the Zebra stuff, and the IR camera stuff.

Lol first thing I said to my mate was - "Where the f*** do you get a Zebra"

I guess I should have waited to see what other offers were accepted first but was concerned about no flashes being left, I put in an offer of £165 which was accepted and seems a reasonable amount for the flash. Annoyingly though I'd no idea I'd had the offer accepted until I was checking another auction today and noticed that it said I had one item to pay for.

John

Well, mine arrived today; box is mint with all paperwork inside, plus the additional SD800 battery pack, the gel pack and the diffuser dome. Flash in in great nick with a few surface scratches but little else in the way of wear. LCD is mint. Everything works fine.

Pleased with this purchase :)

A bit of a Sunday morning impulse offer of £143 and it was accepted so £150 including delivery. Very happy :D
