Hi,

Just a quick question.

Did a shoot last month and took approx 1000 pics.

Went through 4 sets of Alkaline batteries.

Had a SD-8A battery pack attached too.

I know the battery life depends on what you are shooting, and whether it is at full power etc..

Most of the shoot was in i-TTL and iTTL BL

Just wondering on what others have had on here.

If your shooting in ttl mode then as far as I'm aware your basically in full power and dumping the excess that's not needed, if you shoot in manual then the flash will only power up what's needed and your batteries will last longer, some good quality rechargables will help with recycling as well :)

Doesn't sound unreasonable, depending entirely on how much power the gun was putting out, and the quality of the batteries. The handbook will give estimates.

Not true. Hot-shoe guns always fire at full power, and the flash is cut short when enough light has been delivered, as determined by the metering system or the manual power setting.

Then the unused power is recycled for the next flash. This happens regardless of the mode.
 
I'm no electrical engineer, hence why I said as far as I'm aware, but always ready to be proven wrong :)

the batteires were really hot when I took them out of the flash, so i put them down to crap batteries.

Will look into the eneloop ones.
