Hi - I have the SB600 flash, mounted on my camera , set in TTL and TTL-BL mode. When i take a picture i get 3 short bursts of light before the picture is taken. I think the red eye reduction may be set either on the flash or camera but for the life of me i can switch it off. I would like the flash to work normally (without the pulses of light) but dont know how to do this! Does anyone know how to change the settings or advise on what to do? (ive lost the flashgun manual)!

Many thanks
Jen

the bursts of flash are the pre flashes that set your flash exposure in TTL mode, you cant turn them off if you want TTL, in manual they wont be present.

Red eye is set on the camera, press the flash button on the left hand side of the pentaprism, then one of the control dials changes the flash mode, you need it on the flash symbal with out the eye next to it. Hope that makes sense.

Jennifer - I am reading through the SB900 book and was having the same issue all the iTTL modes work in this way - you need to set it to manual - not sure how to do that on SB600

Here is a link to a PDF of your manual click here

HI jeniveeev

you need to set it to manual
:shake:

After much playing about last night - I realise what was happening in your OP - Sorry for bum info on my part - the red eye reduction must have been set to on as Davec223 posted:thumbs: I thought you were refering to the almost unoticable short Metering bursts - the red eye reduction is 3 very obvious flashes:thumbs:

Its a learning curve:lol:

I too thought you where talking about the meetiering bursts, never mind you have it sorted now.
Mart.

This fooled me for a while too... I had monitoring-flashes turned off and almost convinced myself it was part and parcel of TTL... until I saw the red-eye icon on the LCD

thanks guys - sorry for confusing you all. I was so confused by it myself, i didnt know what to ask but thanks to you its now sorted. tell me about the learning curve.....my brain hurts with this stuff! lol

edit - lastolite thanks for the pdf, ive saved it for future reference.

 your welcome! I am having a night off from the curve:lol:
