SB-600 Flash with no flash :(

My 3 month old sb-600 appears to have died? Fresh batteries, everything switches on fine, ready light glows nice and quick but firing the flash (either by releasing the shutter or pressing the test button) results in a quite click and absolutely no flash :(

I'm guessing it's died? Hoping this is not a common fault?

That doesn't sound good (he said, stating the bleedin' obvious), just to confirm, what mode/settings are you using it in?

I've tried it in command, manual and TTL.But I guess pressing the "test" button on the flash is the ultimate test and it still just goes click and does nuffin :(

My plans for some lighting fun over the xmas period are scuppered!

Yup. Mail order from Camera Box. Guess I'm about to find out what there customer service is like as it of course will be a grey import so the warranty will be for them to sort.

I've tried two sets of freshly charged sets. (One of those sets being those eneloooopy thingies).

Try this.....fit a set of non-rechargeable alkeline batteries and turn the flash on, while it's still switched on open the battery door and remove the batteries, put them back in and switch the flash back on - that's the official Nikon way to reset the processor in the flash.

If that doesn't work then it looks like a trip back to Camerabox :(

The 'kind of' good news is that the flash that died is not the one I purchased 3 months ago as I thought but the one I got 8 days ago which means I can simply return within the 30 day money back period for refund or replacement :clap:

Ah, I'm too slow. The problem is a broken flash tube, a simple repair (I have done it myself). I'd have offered to take the flash off you and gotten me a cheap SB600 :p

That's what it sounds like, but unusual for such a new flash unless it's suffered impact damage.....

Thats the annoying bit. Its not made it out the house yet (Well at least I dont think so as I've muddled the two SB-600's up already :)). Guess the Sh***y Link driver might have dropped kicked it out of the depot though?

Thats what happened to mine, but I bought it form the states so Nikon won't take it back in the uk apparently... So how can I fix it?? :D
