Well today's a Red-Letter Day:
I hand-in my issued camera equipment and won't be getting anything back in return.
My kit will be re-furbed and handed over to a sprog coming out of the factory in September.

So, Farewell my rugged and beautiful D3's - I knew you when you still had paint...
adieu my lovely, battered 24-70 and 80-200 - sorry about that midnight fall into the muddy ditch which broke your lens hoods...
das-vidaniya trusty SB900's - you have re-awakened my love for low light work and off-camera flash...
so long, sexy and alluring 14-24 - sorry I never actually used you...

:'(:'(:'(

From now on I use my own kit - like most of you I now have to buy my own again.

:'(

thats for your bank balance not the camera equipment:)

Somehow it won't be the same when you are smashing up your own equipment, you'll be just that little more careful...

The reality of life on the outside must be hitting home now Rob. Though you've done it before if I remember rightly.

How's the resettlement plan coming together?

Gotta be hard to hand all that stuff back in.

Don't you have a D3 body you purchased yourself though? I seem to remember some eBay bargain that turned out to not be so much of a bargain? Or did you sell it on?

Farewell my rugged and beautiful D3's

Of course, if you'd put "D3s", people might not have realised you meant the plural of D3 and instead thought you had a D3s (somebody thought I had a D200s the other day when I meant plural).

"D3 bodies" works as an alternative. ;)

All this over some camera gear though. I bet there'll be tears when you hand your No.1s in;)

exactly - "Dee-Threes" not "Dee-Three-Esses"

I think D3's is an acceptable use of the apostrophe in this instance, nicht war?

Spookily, I haven't had either No.1's or No.2's since I left PWRR back in '02.

Really Large Corps seem not to be bothered about us looking good...
Good job I was never posted to London District, then...lol

Best of luck in whatever you are going to do Rob.

And thanks..........

hmmm.. a D3 that reads TP and even a SB900 that understands russian although not in cyrillic  . must be hard to part with equipment so intelligent

did you at least get to keep a sig? :D

ahh no I handed the Sig back in February - along with the 'buckshee' 300 rounds of 9mm...

Boss looked at me aghast: "have you signed for all this?"

"Hello Boss, this is a war, not an exercise on STANTA, you know - well you would if you ever left the NAAFI..."

Who knows what Rob has in his loft for 'rainy days'

Sorry to hear it is time for the kit to leave Rob - mind you Dixons helped you to a spankingly new set with a huge discount :D

Best of luck for the new work matey.... especially with the noise packet about to arrive en Stalk!

Leaving the Army, going to work for myself.

Was staying on in the regular army a possible option for you, Rob?

Anyhow, best of luck whatever you do.

don't...just...don't...

I'm seriously thinking of joining the STABs so I can 'deploy' when the need arises...

 Nah. Take it easy for a while Rob and enjoy every noise ridden, nappied moment of it.

Not seen many maternity shots yet too?

You should hear the loft stories I have heard....

could/would you have bought it off them given the chance?

No.
I just sourced the same kit privately instead - start fresh with all the paint still attached...lol

Also meant I could buy knowing exactly what I needed rather than hoping for the best.
To that end I've gone for:

2x "Dee-Threes" (OK Grum? lol), one new, unused (from that awesome Techfurb sell-off), one 2nd-hand from a TP member;
New D3x (which may get sold still, depending on how much use it gets);
Old 16mm f/2 fisheye
Old 17-35 f/2.8
New 24-70mm f/2.8
Old 35mm f/2
2nd-hand 85mm f/1.4
New 50mm f/1.4G
New 70-200mm f/2.8 VR-I
New SB900 x2 (with 2 more on the way)

Lots of Studio stuff too boring to mention here...

No.

A man of impeccable taste.. 24-70 f/2.8 and a 85mm f/1.4:thumbs::clap:

As it was in Afghan - looks about the same now - maybe a few more scratches here and there...

A sad day indeed.
Hope there was some kind of ceremony, flags, emotional tributes and a parade :D

At least nobody will be shooting at your kit and hopefully you won't be in quite the same level of danger in your new career. (just don't do weddings in Italy).

"This is my camera. There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My camera is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my camera is useless. Without my camera, I am useless........"
:D:D:D

Wish you all the best.

Tony

On a positive note we will be able to see more of your pics now

Damn. It's always much more fun giving a camera a hard ime when it isn't your own lol.

EDIT: Is it just me or do those pics of the camera looking 'worn in' make it seem even more sexy than a shiny new one?!

The new ones don't feel comfortable to me yet, I have to say...the rubber is too grippy and some edges are too sharp (the edge of the removable battery compartment cover especially)...
