August 31, 14.50, 2010 our sally aged 13 years white staffordshire bull terrier had to be put to sleep in the back of my car, she had a stroke, and the vet said it affected her brain, i was blubbering that much as the vet injected her my tears landed on his back.

I buried her in the back garden she will always be with us.

So so so sorry to hear that Mark
As a pet owner we have a duty of care, sadly sometimes that includes making the most difficult of choices.
Remember the happy times and she will be waiting for you at rainbow bridge.

Sometimes words cannot express enough so have a hug or two from me

:hug::hug:

No, it is never easy! Im so sorry! When I lost my dog recently, I was speaking to someone about why they don't live as long as us, and its not fair, they said "Think of how hard it is to loose them after 10 years, then think how hard it would be to loose them after 70 years"

And a poem that helped me alot:

"There is one best place to bury a dog.
"If you bury him in this spot, he will
come to you when you call - come to you
over the grim, dim frontier of death,
and down the well-remembered path,
and to your side again.

"And though you call a dozen living
dogs to heel, they shall not growl at
him, nor resent his coming,
for he belongs there.

"People may scoff at you, who see
no lightest blade of grass bent by his
footfall, who hear no whimper, people
who may never really have had a dog.
Smile at them, for you shall know
something that is hidden from them,
and which is well worth the knowing.

"The one best place to bury a good
dog is in the heart of his master."

Rest in peace Sally.

Very moving.
I have always found dogs to be truer friends than the human species.

I agree, I worked as a veterinary nurse before having kids, and I was always grateful that we could give animals the dignity they deserve, no matter how much it breaks our hearts.
An animals love is unconditional.

Thinking of you at this very sad time.

Sorry to hear this matey and I know (as will many others) how you feel. Try to think back on all the awesome times you had together... When I said goodbye I thought it was fitting to remember all the great times and not to dwell too much.

Thinking of you matey :)

Sorry to hear this, posting about my dog last month helped me a lot and I hope it does some good for you too.

If you have a decent photograph of her there are artists online who will paint a portrait from it for you, I had one done of Judy and am very pleased with the result, just a suggestion.

Very sorry to hear this Mark. I've had to do it twice so far. Dreading number three. I too sobbed like a child. I apologised to the vet afterwards. He said that he would have been shocked if I hadn't.
As someone once said to me, "they are only on loan to us". We give them the best posible life we can and the dignity we can. Take care mate.

Kev.

I am so sorry to hear this sad news. Nothing prepares you for the loss of your companion.

May Sally rest in peace.

I too feel deeply for you. My 15 year old best friend had to be put to sleep about two months ago, I held and comforted him as he had the injection... So hard. :(
You'll never forget her but I hope the pain eases for you soon.

Sorry to hear that Mark. I'm sure you loved her very much and gave her a good life. That you were able to continue that right up to her death, being with her to the end, and that you made the decision to prevent her suffering, was the very best thing you could do. Be comforted by that and think about all the fun times you shared.

I've been through it too in the past and dread losing my lovely lab.We do get very attached to them and there is no shame in crying with the grief of losing them.

So sorry to hear your sad news Mark.

It's never easy however the end comes about but sometimes it's the final act of kindness we can do for them.

Run free.....

"Near this spot
Are deposited the Remains of one
Who possessed Beauty without Vanity,
Strength without Insolence,
Courage without Ferocity,
And all the Virtues of Man without his Vices.
This Praise, which would be unmeaning Flattery
If inscribed over human ashes,
Is but a just tribute to the Memory of
BOATSWAIN, a Dog,
Who was born at Newfoundland, May, 1803,
And died at Newstead Abbey, Nov. 18, 1808."

Lord Byron's epitaph to his dog.
Says it all.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss Mark. I still miss our SBT Flo.

This was a poem we used in her memory in the Rescue Magazine just after her passing. It just seemed very fitting for her but I remember at the time I couldn't read it without crying.

LETTERS IN WOOD

Wherever I go she follows me,
My house is her domain;
There isn’t a nook or cranny
Where she hasn’t staked her claim.
Even though she has left me,
There isn’t one tiny place
Where I don’t sense her presence
Or remember her cheerful face.

All the years we spent together
Remain buried in my past;
The memories are like diamonds
Forever they will last.
She couldn’t speak my language,
She knew that I understood.
Scatch marks on the door,
Are her letters in wood.

So sorry to hear of your loss. As everyone has said, it is not easy.

Try & take some comfort from this.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
