Sawman's 52 Quality

Lovely and peaceful image of that little church Charlie, the wood is nice and warm.

Touching distance... man... soo lucky..

I really like the composition, and exposure you chose for these shots. they've worked very well and definitely say "Peace" to me.

The windows look a tad blown though (to be expected with the different lighting conditions). Did you try and burn them down a bit, or was there minimal PP on this?

Ian.

Cheers & yes the windows are a bit blown. I did very little PP on the shot other than lighten the foreground wood a touch.
I have taken a range of exposures & I am thinking of having a go at HDR.
Want to get it so it does not look like HDR though. Never tried it before so I can imagine lots of muttering going on.:)

My take on this weeks theme.
Taken at the 18mm end of my 18-50.
The near squirrel would be about 15 inches from the camera.
They are both "indulging" in some squirrlie food!

Ha Ha I love it my type pf piccy. Love the light and the colours of the Squirrels but to my eyes (and my eyes only) looks like the focus is on the food instead of the squirrel, but then I said my eyes

I would like one day to tkae some of these as I am getting sick of the greys here grrrrrrrrrrr .

Cuteness award of the week to these I think...

To be honest, the front squirrel, and the array of nuts are so big in the frame, I didn;t notice the second one in the background. I think maybe some judicious cropping might help to focus the attention on the animals rather than the seeds, trees and seed tray.

Lovely work!

Ian.

Cheers. I understand what you say but in this shot I wanted the food to be large in the frame. That is the indulgance bit!:D

Nice detail in your indulgence shot.

Would prefer a tighter crop to get rid of the wood at the front and just inside the tree stump on the left.

The different coloursed seeds add a lot to the pic and lead you into the image to the squirel.

Well done

Charlie, I'm not sure who is indulging who here... are you indulging them with the good, are they indulging themselves with the food, or are they indulging you, letting you get that damned close you can use 18mm to shoot red squirrels...

Excellent image, and fit the theme in lots of ways

18mm to capture red squirrels  I'm extremely jealous :)

Lovely shot and the food says indulgence perfectly

Andy

Charlie,

Cracking photo of the red squirrel indulging in all that food..........

That is close with the camera.......... I thought I got close to my duck!

Cheers for the comments folks.
I have done nothing for this weeks challenge as yet. Hope I am allowed some time off!

I seem to have fallen behind a wee bit! I will try to sort that very soon. This is a desperate take on Stop. Just could not think of anything else, sorry.
As you can see I was not in my natural habitat when I took this!

Sorry James, it fits the theme and is pin sharp but not really much else to recomend it.

Feels very cluttered with too many distractions. A shallower depth of field may have helped.

Not much help I know but at least you got something in. I haven't even taken the shot yet. I'm so uninspired I might be playing a joker

I've a feeling that this weeks them may be more to your liking

Andy

Very surprising for you, Charlie, as you say. But fits the theme nonetheless.

In a way I agree with you. Crap shot really though.
It was intentional to have it so busy as It gave a reason to say stop at the kerb! If you get my drift.

Ach you ken me Janice. I like to surprise now & then.:)
Even had a wee go at street candids & also a lookie into an Anne Summers shop.

just cos its your birthday, no need to go mad!! :D

Good idea for this weeks theme. I think it would have been better if you was square on to the stop sign

Happy belated birthday Charlie :D

Technically it's a good shot for stop and definitely fits the theme. I can't say that it was one of the most inspiring ones that we've had.

I agree that it could do with a bit more oomph though - maybe if you'd had filters with you, a longer exposure to give a sense of the cars whizzing past?
I can't talk though - I resorted to recycling an old shot this week.

Absolutely love your indulgent squirrels though
Beautiful shot.

Beautiful shot.

No time for faffing about with filters when Dundee wifies are jostling at you so that they can play in the traffic instead of waiting for green!

You are of course correct. I have been a bit out of sorts for a week or two but hopefully normal service will resume shortly.:D
Thank you for the birthday wishes too.;)

Nothing more to add that hasn't been said above really. Sorry I can't be more helpful!

Ian.

Happy Birthday Charlie (a bit late ...)... not much to add, except, that's so far outside your comfort zone :D... at least based on the piccies we see.. I agree with square on to the sign though.

I was going to take a shot of an isolated cottage from my home Glen for this one.
However, I find myself falling asleep a lot just now ( been working just that wee bit harder) so decided a longish drive was not a good idea!
I took this poppie instead. It is in isolation from the BG! Or am I pushing my luck.:)

Hi Charlie, when I saw your stop photo, I thought I must have visited the wrong thread :D It's not a Sawman type of photo.

Anyway, I love your poppy shot. It is a bit of a stretch for the theme but it's your thread so does it matter?

I love the little hairs on the outside of the bud. They take my eye rather than the flower itself.

I am not really experienced enough to make suggestions, but I think I would have preferred it in portrait format to show more of the stem. I would also have preferred slightly less DOF to "isolate" the background a bit more. I find the background just a bit distracting.

Stop. Certainly a change of style for you but it fits the theme well, a little squarer on would have improved it, but it works O/K as is.

Isolation. Great colour and clarity on the subject and the DOF is spot on for the background.

A sawman type shot! :help: Am I that predictable :D
I think you might get a few surprises this year ;)
I agree it is stretching the theme a bit but the shot I have in mind is a good 4 hours away & I am not driving just now.
I may yet go & take it though.
Vertical shot is posted in Wild & free on here.

Cheers. I have to admit that the Poppy was a chance find this afternoon & I sort of "borrowed" your thinking.

Isolation is a bit of a crowbar, but a beautiful image all the same!

Phil

Nothing at all wrong with that interpretation for me
And a beautifully detailed shot. I love the way that you've caught the crumpled petals just before they open.

It reminds me of a frame from one of those time lapse nature films where you see flowers opening.

And if you do get the chance to drive to your other location of choice, I think we can forgive 2 shots for this week's theme.

As to the other location. About an hours drive followed by another hour crossing over a hill. Take pic if weather is OK then back over hill & drive home.
I just might you know!:D
