Sawman's 52 Quality

Love the mechanical shot. The shadows add to the feeling of quiet workmanship, striving to create something even the rest of the world doesn't know what work went into it

Now that I can relate too.

Nice shot, i dont think i would have had it running because the blur is alittle distracting. Aprt from that i think its a nice shot

Each to their own.
I had it running because the theme is mechanical & I was trying to convey that.

Bit of a catch up for me!

Present: That's a lovely shot of a gorgeous present. I think the shadows are fine on this and it just goes to prove that rules are there to be broken! :)

People: The first one is totally charming - very natural and full of the 'awwww' factor. The second one is classic and definitely deserves a caption. I particularly like the expression of the lady on the right hand side of the bench. It really made me smile, even if the falconry display didn't make them happy. :D

Mechanical: Excellent - perfect for the theme, and you've judged the movement blur beautifully.

I'm disappointed to have missed that falconry display . . . from the looks of things it was absolutely riveting :)

Mechanical : I think you were right not to play around with the WB any more. I love the warm feel to this.
Good motion blur on the blade and I think the composition is very effective - personally I think you've got the angle spot on.

Well done on getting to grips with the pattern making too

Cheers. The falconry was so good I turned the camera on the "Glums"
The old woman leaning on the walking stick just made it for me:lol:

As to mechanical. I have a very old morticing machine in the back of the workshop. I was going to do that but the forklift would not start in the minus 10 deg. So I settled for the warm option.

I like it Charlie... the warmth really works well for it, as does the motion blur.

Never seen your shots before. I'm not sure what I like more. The photos or the wonderful woodwork. It's all fantastic.

Thank you for that. The scroll sawing is the only way I have found to totally shut out everything else.;)

My take on play. I was going to take some shots for this today. The light has other ideas!
They are taking part in a race where the girls have to carry the boys on their backs through the water & then across a stone covered beach. Sounds like fun.:)

That just looks plain crazy at this time of year. I was going to say the skin tones looked a bit pink but then I considered the temperature and thought better of it :) Nice composition and good detail

Cheers. It was taken on a summers day. Then again there is not much difference in the North sea.

Sounds fun ????? :cuckoo:
I'll give that one a miss thanks

Although from a spectator's perspective it does make a fun shot.
I really like the expressions that you've caught on their faces, it's nicelt composed and I like the splashes that you've managed to capture in the water

Mechanical - I was hoping we would get something like that Charlie, though I had visions of a massive spinning log saw! I like the lighting, it does indeed suit the shot, I can almost imagine it lit by an oil lamp while you work away all night at those wonderful pieces of art.

Oh and you never know, those lights might materialise one day, keeping fingers crossed for you.

Play - are they absolutely insane? Not sure what else to say other than that HAS to be the coldest play I have ever seen

Oil lamp! I will have you know young lady That I am of an age when I can remember the coming of the electric to my home Glen. Oil lamps were standard then. The old tilley lamp. Dunno what that has to do with the 52 but you just stirred a memory.

As to the lights. I doubt it. Just hope they are using them & are learning about light /shadows with them.

So you do not fancy carrying me on your back while wading in the North sea?:lol:

Hi Charlie,

Just stumbled across your 52 (keep finding them!) some very nice shots there - in particular I love the Mechanical one........

You are also fortunate enough to live in a very picteresque part of the UK - have a very good friend from Uni who has a farm over the other side of the A90, up in Auchnacree / Ogil.... way......... some spectacular landscapes at the feet of the highlands!

Thank you. No that area fairly well. Not as nice as Glen Prosen though. But then I may be biased.

My thoughts on chemistry. I am just an old romantic at heart.:gag::lol:

Chemistry.jpg

Works for me. You can see the chemistry between them

Only slight improvement may have been to have more blur in the background but it looks like they were too close to achieve this.

A really good pair of shots Charlie... they look like they are Playing a rather strange game in Play, but it's on theme...

And Chemistry... I thought about a similar idea, but have no way to get anything like that. It's a great shot, and clearly shows the chemistry between them.

Thanks folks.
I enjoy trying my hand at candid shots too & the last two themes have lent themselves to showing some of my candids.:)

Nice chemistry shot Charlie, I did think about getting a macro kiss for my chemistry shot but I'm still thinking it over ;)

That sounds interesting:) I shall look out for that one,

I like your "play" picture Charlie. It looks like they are having fun though I'm sure the water was really cold.

Thank you. I can confirm that the water was very cold!

Hope you are feeling a bit better

Great chemistry and play shots - really captures the moment:)

Chemistry works well. Great eye contact with each other and they look like they're not going to hold back much longer. Only slight niggle is the background, but I guess you can't pick and choose where you grab a candid :D Nicely done

Definitely some chemistry there.
I really like the intimacy of the close up shot too.

Where was this taken?
As much as I like it as a standalone shot, I just feel like I'd like some more context to it. The lace, puffy sleeves on the lady almost look like some kind of costume and I'd love to know more about it.
That's not a bad thing though - the fact that it's interesting me and drawing me in has to be a positive.

p.s. I'm glad that you enjoy candid shots . . . looks like you'll get another opportunity this week :p

It was taken at "The Muckle Backit race" at Auchmithie.
Bet all is clear now.:lol::lol:

As mud  :suspect:

Just teasing you. I will put some shots together & post.
It is an event held at the Village of Auchmithie near Arbroath to commemerate the women of the village in days gone by. They used to carry the men on their backs out to theire boats to save the men from going to sea with wet feet. Hence "Muckle Backit" ie Big Back.
The Chemistry was a fisher wedding that was being acted out on the same day.

What a lovely Chemistry shot...I would have loved to get something like this but the week didn't come up trumps unfortunately :)

Thank you. Maybe you will have more luck with "candid". Good luck:thumbs:
