That is stunning "what a present", very sharp. :thumbs:
Have to agree with Clud17 about the shadows.
 
First off, the shadows are a bit harsh for me too, a bigger, softer light would help tremendously.

But hey, what a great picture otherwise, and how brilliant are you at making things with wood! The puzzle is amazing, I'm in awe! :-)
 
Lovely present - really unusual. As said the shadows are a bit hard but the colour of the wood has come out nicely.
 
Great looking puzzle let down slightly by the background and shadows. Perhaps stand it up (if it will stand) with some reasonably strong backlight.
 
Love both of them Charlie... Speedy water, and a handmade present ...
 
The harsh shadows were intentional. I was trying to show the thickness of the wood. Yes it will stand but as I have nothing behind it as yet then all there would be would be daylight shining through the cuts.
I understand what you all mean though.
 
Speed - A take on the theme that hadn't occured to me. I think you've got the water's motion just right - I don't like those shots where it looks as if somebody has squirted a load of shaving foam all over the place.
The white branches adds good contrast to the richer reds and browns in the scene.

Present - on the theme of 'present' I think this is wonderful. Photographically, I find the shadows too deep and too harsh.
 
That's another fantastic piece of work with the scroll saw Charlie. Absolutely stunning :love:
If this is it before it's completely finished, it will be superb when it's done.

Photographically, I actually quite like the background you've used. It has the feel of an oof dark, leafy forest.
The shadows : :thinking: I'm in two minds about these. They do look a bit harsh, but I see what you mean about showcasing the thickness of the wood.
There are areas where the lighting really works . . .like in the hollow of the tree and along the LHS of the large owl - you can really see the thickness of the wood and the texture there. But the shadow below the tree and underneath the owl are a bit much.

Perhaps a black background would have given you the lighting that you wanted but absorbed those shadows :thinking:

It was a hurried shot one lunch time. Background is my jacket draped over a trestle in bright sunshine. I improvised!:D
Ach well onwards to people.:)

That's a beautiful shot.
What a wonderful present. You certainly have an amazing skill. I'd love to be able to create things like this.
I like the shadow and the background, as has already been said it adds to the image, really gives it the 'woodland feeling'.

As for your latest 'people present', it's truly delightful.

Missed your 52 to date you have some wonderful images in your posts like your last one a lot, simple but very effective :clap: the old fire station looks good but the pole coming out across the the name on the building is a bit distracting the garage would have been good with an old car in the scene as you said, you could of borrowed my old triumph Vitesse if you was nearer :) and done a B&W version. look forward to your next posts :thumbs:

It's a lovely shot Charlie, and you may not have had the time, but stopping down the aperture a bit, and reducing the shutter speed would have bought them both info focus.
 
That is a gorgeous shot - I thought it must be some of your family!

I don't think the dummy detracts at all - if anything it emphasises her youth and the fact that she is trusted by the man not to do anything too outrageous (I hope!)

:love: Awww that’s a really sweet shot and a lovely candid. I would almost have thought that it was deliberately set up.
I love the look of intent concentration on the little girl’s face and her granddad(?) just seems blissfully unaware that anything is going on at all.
Lovely colours and nicely composed.

My take on the Mechanical theme.
I did correct the WB but thought that this looked warmer/ better. Lit with a 60w bulb & the light off an electric heater.
I lent out my lights about a year ago & they & the person I lent them too seem to have vanished.:thinking:

I think the lighting suits the shot, Charlie. Nice to see where all these wonderful creations of yours are made!

As for your lights... lets hope the people/person concerned might read this and it jogs their memory to give them back to you.
 
Lighting is good but would it have looked better from the other side with a wooden background? (only guessing from what I can see).

Mind those extremities on that blade :)

Cheers Janice. I have a couple of very special ones to do soon. Now I have mastered making the patterns.:lol:

The lights are a gonner I think. Lost the persons email when my old computer went pop.

There was only room at this side as the machine is tucked into a corner of a small shed. I agree though that it would have been more interesting to try out several angles.:thumbs:
 
People - I think that shot of the people 'having fun' is a cracker. It's the sort of shot you could never ever get if you asked them to pose like that. Especially the woman with the walking stick -what an expression!
Well captured.

Mechanical - I like the warm effect of the lighting and that the saw is in motion. I just find the dark parts a little too black.
 
Love the mechanical shot. The shadows add to the feeling of quiet workmanship, striving to create something even the rest of the world doesn't know what work went into it
 
The warmth of the colours reflects the material, wood. Wood is warm. Metal is cold :) Lovely warm wood shot :thumbs:
