when trying to save a photo on cs3 it always comes up to save as a tiff document when i click the drop down box i dont have the option of saving as a jpeg dont know why help

You might need to change from 16 bit to 8 bit first.

Go to image>mode then select 8 bit and that will do the trick.

looks like thats done the trick i have spent three days trying to sort that out saved my sanity thanks a lot

I've not tried it yet, but apparently CS5 will allow you to save a JPEG from a 16-bit file - it just goes ahead and converts it to 8-bit while it does that.

It also saves to jpeg when you have layers, it just flattens automatically too. Good stuff.

I changed Lightroom Preferences to export to Photoshop as 8 bit every time so I don't have that problem for the photo's I try to save as a jpeg.

in Lightroom Go to.. Edit> Preferences > Additional External Editor> Bit Depth> then change the option to 8 Bits/component

This is presuming that Photoshop is your external editor and if you want this option for all future exported photo's

HTH

I do all my editing in 16 bit, I never change to 8 bit, except when I want to save the final jpg, after all my PPing is finished

Exactly. Unless you're drastically short on memory, processor speed and storage space, leave it as 16-bit.
