Saving photos at 300dpi in Lightroom 5

There is no need, a photo is made of pixels and 300dpi (or ppi probably) is for output only.

Yes. In the export module you have the ability to set a specific output size. part of this is the ppi figure. So you can set the dimensions you want and the resolution in pixels /inch.

I noticed the option on the export dialogue, but It's under image resizing.

Does the option to set the ppi work if I don't insert any digits in the image sizing part?

I was asking because I've just signed up with 500px, and if I go payed, the images have to be of good quality.

The figure in the resolution field is the resolution that Lightroom will export the image at,even if the rest of the resize data is greyed out by unticking the "Resize to fit" option . You can check this by exporting the image directly into Photoshop or elements and check the data in "Image Size" you'll see the resolution is 300ppi.

Of course, 300 dpi (or ppi) is totally and utterly meaningless unless you're going to be sending the image to a pro layout company.

I have LR to save mine at 666 dpi.

Here's an image at 100 dpi

and at 3000 dpi

See what a huge difference it makes!

ppi is just the print resolution... it tells the printer how big t print . Unless you're printing it makes no difference. You can set 1 ppi if you want. For screen work, it's pixel resolution that matters.
