I'm after optimizing some images for use with my web site. They're all 785 x 493 size and roughly from 150kb sometimes up to 300kb for some images.

I'm after trying to reduce the file size of them all to about 50kb, so they can load up to three times faster.

In the past, I used to use the Web Gallery function built into Photoshop CS3, but I'm on CS4 now and it doesn't have that option. I know it's there in Bridge, but I can't choose specific image sizes, just small, medium and large.

Is there any other way you can do it? I was tempted to re-open them all in Photoshop, re-save them, but do it at roughly 40% quality, as they reduce down to 50-60kb. But then the image quality apparently reduces. I can't see it as such, but I assume it will reduce.

Any ideas?

I am not certain but Photoshops facility for saving images for web is probably doing the same - i.e. taking down the quality. What you need to do is decide how much quality you are prepared to give up in order to speed up loading of images.

for fast processing I use irfanview..
it's a lite install and freeware.

batch processing allows you to select the largest edge size and processing 100's of files into another folder. then you can set the JPG quality and even add some basic text to the corner if you wish...simple and gets the job done.
