Daily Sarah's 365 31st December 2013 - The End! (CAN'T BELIEVE I'VE ACTUALLY FINISHED!!)

the naughty corner hey?

Just a bit :) We still have Simon's naughty chair that used to sit in a corner :)

Composition doesn't really work for me on that shot Sarah - especially the black corner or the overly tall aspect.....

Hate to agree with the fishy one again - but the crop is a bit strange for me too :(

Deliberate crop this one, as the corner was tall and narrow & also because I like different crops & sometimes framing things like this to fit in a corner, the black edge is also deliberately what the eye saw in the corridor as you looked around the corner from the top of the stairs.
But we all have our own likes and dislikes, which is what makes us all different.

I have to say I like it... Because it fits with the title..around the corner..not in the corner..so the dark edge makes me feel I'm peering around something.??

Thank you, glad you could see what I wanted the viewer to see & feel on this one.

The textures and colours on that door are fab and the portrait of your son is really, really cool. I hope he likes it! It's been a while since I've seen a pretty sunset so your photo makes up for that!

Also loving the flowers. That colour!

Thanks Toni, yes, he does like it :) He had a hand in how it was processed as well.

CiCLE Classic

Blimey, it's been a year since I took any cycling images and it's the thing that got me into photography in the first place, I was very out of practice. Really enjoy going out to the classic every year, it's fantastic to see the bikes not only on the road, but also on the very rough farm tracks.
As for the rider in this, yes he did stay upright and carried on.

Excellent action shot Sarah - beautifully crisp and sharp :)

What were your settings if you don't mind me asking - there's no exif on your Flickr ;)

No problems, save for web strips the data. ISO1000, f8 1/500sec with 1/3+ exposure comp. (I tend to be moving that up and down all day at a race).

Took a few shots to get me back into the swing of a race after a year not photographing it.

Well, you've obviously not lost you touch :D

Perfect timing, great image. Looks like his leg's up to the job though, so I'm not surprised he managed to right himself.

Very nice capture

Thanks Jim

Certainly does doesn't it, they have to have a really different skill set to win this race, it's more like some of the Belgian Classic races like the Paris-Roubaix than normal domestic road racing. Probably why this race is popular with some of the foreign teams that come over to ride it.

Snakes Head Fritillary

I just love these flowers, the checkerboard pattern on the petals is just beautiful. I've finally managed to get a patch of these growing in the garden, but only produce about 4 flowers, so only sacrificed one for a still life shot.
Right, back to processing the shots from yesterdays bike race again now :)

I just love these flowers too, my dad has them in his garden - not sure if they'd grow here or not  So very pretty.

Still going about my latest catch up! I love the church door, but then I have a bit of a fascination with these myself - but that one is wonderfully old and full of character!

I like the portrait of Simon and agree that it really does suit mono

Sunset is spectacular and the sillouhette (can't spell it and right clicking gives 'hermosillo' as the alternative!:lol:) of the trees is fantastic :)

I love the composition, vibrancy and general 'look' of the Quince flowers - beautiful.

I actually really like the chair - and some of these old houses are just full of nooks and crannies and strange corners that you always just have to peer into to see what's there and the photo kind of plays into that feeling.

The cycling photo is fantastic - really captured the action, great bright colours in their outfits which contrast well, and that dust in the background really gives a feeling of being there and seeing the tyres turning.

I have never in my life seen one of those flowers - what an interesting shape and you capture it so well!

.............now.........off to see what the hell hermosillo means.......

Thanks for the catch up Sam, just googled Hermosillo & it's a city in Mexico, so very odd alternative to silhouette!

Toni, thank you, glad you like it :)

If anyone is interested, I've just put the whole set up of the cycle race now on Flickr, I'd forgotten just how long they took to process!! No wonder I have more time now that I don't do that any more :)

Primroses

Primroses in the local graveyard, they almost carpet it at this time of year.
Bit late adding the photo today, as somehow managed to delete all my documents, every single one!!!! Aaarrrrggghhh!! God knows how it happened, I'd backed off just about everything & wanted to delete some folders, ticked one to delete & the whole lot disappeared!!! Still thanks to Recuva, I have them all back. Just have to sort into folders now :(

Very nice - I particularly like the vibrance of the flowers against the top of the photo going into the LHS, that colour against the more muted tones works so well for me. :)

What a lovely catch up... love the chair and the snakes head is gorgeous... although i did think it was a lamp lol...

My fav is the bikes tho.... fantastic!

Thanks all, glad you like the magnolia, it's in a tub in the garden & it just put a sheet of paper behind the flower that looked right, quick 5 minute job today as am still sorting files out !!!!! I must back up every day in future.

really like the magnolia shot - nailed the focus and use of DOF - great composition too
