weekly *Sarah* 2012 52 week challenge. Yippee I made it!!

#1 for me, great eye-dea! (Sorry it made me chuckle)

I know you have had a tough week but hopefully you are feeling a bit better and ready to tackle Saturdays theme?! (not staples)

Hoping to get my Entrance done tomorrow, not an out of the box idea whatsoever!

Thanks Alex, it has been a tough week but I'm picking up again now!! I had hoped to get out and about at the weekend but ended up stuck in while Peter went out and got his. I was thinking about having a week off and catching up next week but then decided it would not get the better of me!

I look forward to seeing yours soon!!

Hi Sarah

Entrance - really good idea for the theme. Whether the entrance to the mind or not, the eye is where our view of the world enters our senses and I think a really creative shot. Prefer #1 because the lighting is better and the wide eye exhibits the entrance better without any expression which can be seen in #2 - the slight smile.

Glad to hear you are getting back on your feet - great images. I like the first eye and the magazine cover made me stop and think! Mandy

Like the entrance interpretation here and I think the first eye shot is the better of the two.

Hard to get a shot like this sharp too so well done

Hi Sarah,

Entrance - it's number one for me! I prefer it for the detail in the actual eye. Although I do like smiling number two!

I hope you're feeling better now?

Thanks for all your comments!:)

I've just come back from a week away so will try and catch up with all yours over the next couple of days!!:)

Entrance - YAY !!!! Great minds think alike... I went for eye's too :)

I like the first one of the two, lovely and sharp, nice colours and a good Crop :)

Just got this weeks in on time!:)

We've been to North Wales for the week and have just got back today. I had an idea in mind and managed to take some shots yesterday evening. They were a bit rushed as we pulled over in this car park at Prestatyn after a day out and we had to get back and pack our things. I have again tried a triptych and I think I've managed to improve the size from the last one I did.

I've not been online this week so havent been able to see all your photos but I will try and catch up and comment on yours this weekend!!:)

Hi Sarah, hope you had a great holiday!

You know what, I think I'd prefer that triptych without the sign. I think the two sand shots say soft well enough, and the sign just cheapens it somehow. It doesn't need to be that "in your face". I love the two outer images (maybe I'd have used a slightly shallower DoF, but that's just taste), and something along those lines in the middle would have made it perfect I think.

I hope I've explained that OK :)

welcome Back, you're getting good at these triptychs, think i agree with Mark, i like the paw prints and foot prints, not sure it needed the sign to say the sand was soft, it does feel a little harsh at the side of the other 2

Hi i can tell your Soft is a well throughout photograph...

The tryptic works well and important really liking the footprints.

I see where Mark is coming from, it would have a softer feel without the sign but the red works well against the blue sky .

Nice one.

Thanks Mark and Liz, I see what you mean about the sign but as that was what I went back to photograph I'm going to keep it in:). The footprints were an after thought and were just snaps that I thought I'd then make into a triptych. I've enjoyed making the triptych's and will look at planning to taking pics to fit them rather than try to use ones I have already taken!:)

Thanks Andy, I was lucky that the sun was shining on the sign, I had been down the night before but it was down too low to get the sign in any light. It was my last chance to get it!:)

Entrance - Despite the smiling eyes of #2 my preference goes to #1 as the eye is more open. Well focussed.

Soft - Great use of a triptych again.

Another good triptych Sarah, and good on you for sticking with the sign as that was what you had envisaged in your shot.

A compromise on having the sign dominant in the centre would be to maybe include a wider view of it, then it is still there only a little smaller. The colour tones of the wall it is mounted on are very similar to the sand shots either side so I think it would be quite cohesive.

If the sand shots were an afterthought, then it was inspired. The footprints mirrored on the opposite paw prints work well. I really like your photograph, no more to add really. Iain

Thanks Iain, I took a wider shot of the sign (maybe too wide) but felt when put into the triptych that it made you look to the left because of the diagonal lines! I quite like the colours on the wall but hadn't connected it to the sand colour!:)

Heres a wider shot.

I like the triptych, I think it says more than the last ones. :)

I'd agree with that, the triptych is more on theme and the footprints and pawprints are both lovely and sharp.

The sign I can't decide on, I think you need something in there and I like the red colour in there too. The beach that's out of focus at the top is actually a little more distracting than the sign to me, I think that should have been a little less out of focus as it looks a fantastic beach.

But I do like it, these triptychs certainly seem to be in vogue at the moment!

Thanks Paul, I wasn't sure whether to leave the beach in at all on the sign shot - maybe I need another holiday over there to re-shoot!!:lol:

Hi Sarah

love the triptych...the prints either side were a cracking idea, I like the sign as it is...though maybe another set of priints or image of the waves on the beach as the centre shot would also have worked ....just my thoughts ?

Yip , like that a lot

Hi Sarah

Soft - like the tryptych idea - it works well. But I think that the sign is not necessary as the sand itself resonates with soft. Maybe just another shot of the sand with prints or light water would have been better. Somehow the sign, although it has the word 'soft' is itself hard an regular.

Thanks Lynne and Alan for your comments, I think when I'm next at the coast I'll try and reshoot!:)

I like the tryptych, I think it works well.. although, I do wonder, given the content of the sign, whether something to do with launching a boat would work better. Still, good soft sand.

I prefer no. 1 - London Pride - also a drink

Soft - The triptych works well but agree sign in too in your face. I would have preferred to see footprints reversed in the middle.
Pride - I prefer the drink but these are well shot with the back lighting really doing its job. Think the second shot could be improved with the background black as #1

I like number 1 best. The backlit hairs and the diagonal composition work extremely well. Great shot :)

Hi Sarah,

I love the tryptych it works really well. great colours and composition - nice work. Nick

Looking on my phone I hadn't noticed that number two's background wasn't as black, but still looks great to me:thumbs: Although I do prefer number one for the detail and lighting.

I know you said you used natural lighting but how did you get this shot? I cannot get a black background without losing detail in whatever it is I'm shooting! I end up needing to pp the background a bit. Can I ask what settings you have used here?

Nice detail and lighting in Prides. I prefer #2, nice and sharp and I like the white edges. What's that in the lower right corner

Cheers.
