On the back of Terri's ultimate sandwich thread......

.....What is your favourite sandwich?
Simple or complicated....let's hear them.

Ooooh I like so many!

You cant beat a good old cheese and ham on fresh crusty bread though

Egg and bacon, three slices of bread with the middle one buttered on both sides (yolk smacked up and spread about with a sprinkling of salt)

For an instant heart heart attack....try making that middle slice fried. :-)

I'm hard pressed to beat a good mature cheddar cheese and thinly sliced strong onion.

And it has to be real butter....none of this "spread or spreadable" nonsense.

Bacon, lettuce & mayo is a personal favourite.

If going down the toasted route, italian salami with gouda does it for me.

Either way, has to be wholemeal/granary bread unless it's a baguette (tiger) or ciabatta.

Tuna and sweetcorn minus the mayo on thinly sliced white . . . or bacon and brie in a nice crusty warm baguette . . . Mmmmmmmm

I do like a tuna & sweetcorn (+ either red or spring onion) but how do you keep the filling in without the mayo to hold it together?

That would ruin it, the fried slice I mean not the heart attack although the latter wouldn't enhance it any

Totally agree, all that other faux butter scrape is disgusting stuff, personally would rather have plain bread. Semi and skimmed milk isn't much better, totally ruins a cuppa or cereal.
Frosties with a pot of single cream or double cream diluted with milk is very pleasant, Ricicles and Sugar Puffs too especially when they get stuck together with the cream.

:agree: this.....without the salt

Excellent idea! if I hadn't read that I also wouldn't have thought about trying eggy-bread in there either.........thanks :D

The good old fashioned bacon sandwich... with or without brown sauce. Grated parmesan cheese on them is nice too.

Bacon = Win. This is a fact. If you don't think bacon is awesome, you're a gibbering idiot :)

for me it would have to be a plain egg banjo with a little white pepper.. other than that really good sour dough bread strong cheddar and onion. a bit boring but hay ho.

The main food item responsible for turning vegetarians back to meat eating ways

egg, bacon, cheese (several kinds if I feel adventurous), tomato, lettuce if I have some, and mayonnaise. If it's on a good piece of stodgy bread it usually manages to stay together quite well.

Hmmm, has to be a bacon sandwich, brown sauce, bacon crispy, that's it!

Mind you, also very fond of the very simple egg and salad cream [not mayo, mayo is uber boring] with a little bit of cress or better still, some fresh herbs.

Oh and whichever spawn of satan thought that that mixing bacon and lettuce on the same sandwich was a good idea deserves a 1000 slow deaths! It is truly disgusting.

Ham.

Smoked salmon with lemon juice and black pepper. Preferably no butter or 'spread', I'm not fond of dairy products.

I thought I might be the only person left who likes haslet!

Right, made this one the other day:

Granary bread (the more seeded the better) - Dairylea spread applied thick and sprinkle over some bacon bits (the kind you buy in a tub made from soya to add crunch) and BOOM that's a cracking quick sarnie!

And Heinz tomato soup doesn't taste of tomato but it's still me favourite tinned soup. :D

Excellent point...well made.

If i`m in pleb mode, I do like crunchy peanut butter butties.

Get to [PLEASE DON'T TRY TO BYPASS THE SWEAR FILTER] i love the stuff my Son at uni has converted others to it too...

As a sandwich filling? Personally, I'd not object to being the filling in a Minogue sisters arrangement!!!

Real world, Nod - real world!!!

BLT but hold the L&T, add some good oak smoked cheddar and toast the sarnie. Bacon should be smoked back and fried in the fat rendered from the (removed) rind.

OR, a Babbis burger. Quite possibly the best beef burger I've ever had (and believe me, I've tried to find a replacement locally!) Babbis is a friend in Crete who used to run a bar with his cousin but was at heart a chef cook. The entire Pantheon might know how he did it but FIIK! Unfortunately he now cooks at the town's campsite (possibly the best food in the town) and is too busy to make his burgers. Fortunately, the campsite's restaurant is open to all so we still get to eat his food. Good prices too!

Looking forward to tomorrow afternoon - I'm having my teef refitted at 11:45 so will once again be able to eat sarnies and toast without having to "soldier" them first.

For sweet sarnies, I'm another crunch peanut butter bloke.

Bacon butty with mushrooms and blue cheese. Got to have mushrooms on a bacon butty, it adds moisture and takes the edge off if the bacon's a bit salty. Bacon must be smoked, naturally.

But I'm struggling with getting decent bread for any sandwich at the moment (and brown sauce is off the menu), options are limited when you're restricted to gluten-free. I've a growing list of recipes and variations to feed into the bread-maker.
