Hello peeps

I work in the industry and as of yesterday all Extreme III/IV CF cards are now end of life from SanDisk and the Extreme pro cards have dropped about 10%

I should imagain there is a new version of the Extreme III coming with new packaging and higher speeds I will keep you posted.

It usualy takes about 15 days for the price drop to filter through to the re sellars but if in any doubt hold onto your cash for a month and wait for the drop.

If anyone needs any more help or info please feel free to drop me a memo

Sounds good. I'm looking to stock up on some more CF cards. Write speeds on the current stock is fine by me, its the read speeds when transferring to the PC that's a killer.

Depends on your reader Viper some of the older one are very slow now a decent USB 2 one should read at 30mbs at least fella?

Its a USB2 reader and a brand new laptop. Takes usually about 15 minutes to transfer a 4gig card. Dunno what that is on transfer rate, but it seems a lot slower than SDHC's were. Not really a big deal as I normally do other things while its transferring.

Me to Viper like grab another glass of wine or change the Pink Floyd CD and scratch my head over Photoshop

Good news, will there be a 64gb card as well?

Regarding transfer speeds to PC, I recently discovered that connecting my 5D2 to the computer and transferring the files using Canon's own software is much faster than taking the CF card out and using my USB2 card reader.

With my old 350D it was the other way round. The card reader was the faster method.

Also, by leaving the CF card in the camera you reduce the risk of bending the pins in the CF slot. Granted, it's unlikely but it does happen. I have two mates who have ruined their DSLRs by bending a CF pin.
