Most Extreme cards now seem to be branded 'HD Video'. Am I correct in thinking this is basically Sandisk's normal 30MB/s card, and just so branded to appeal to video users?

Don't know why you'd need that though. IIRC, it's something like 45Mbit/sec for most video codecs on camcorders/cameras which comes in ~6MBytes/sec. Round it up to 8MBytes/sec for audio and muxing overhead and you have to ask why you need a 30MByte/sec card (unless it is for the inefficiencies of the hardware in being able to sustain 30MBytes/sec)

Bursts of RAW files are far more demanding.

In short: over marketing is probably the answer why they have HD Video printed on them...

Thought so. In the small print it probably says 'up to 30MB/s burst...'

Why do I need it? Well, they don't appear to be making them any slower!

Wanted to get a 16GB SDHC to pair up with same in my D7000.

In reality you should be exactly the same as a normal 10 rated SD card. It's just being marketed to people who don't know much about it. You'd be better off buying two normal 10 rated cards for the same price as one Extreme card.

I've recently had a talk with one of my tutors in Video Production about this :D
