Scary times today!
Took about an hour to do, I might need to re-open it to clean out some dust and possibly tweak the focus slightly but its not bad

If you're competent with fiddly screws then not too bad.
There are very few moving parts so it's pretty simple, there are three tiny tiny screws for the focus ring and a teeny ball bearing which provides the click stops for the aperture but other than that!!

The hardest parts were:
1. Sitting the aperture ring back on the bb, it likes to fire all over the shop
2. Making sure the rings all ended up back in the right place! The first time I messed the focus up but it's easy enough to correct!!

If / when I get time I'll write a how-to!

Nice one!

All you had was a few screwdrivers and you changed an EOS 50D into a 1D!? :-P

Chuckle!
Didn't think about taking a before photo on the 1d!!

I was tempted to leave the bb out as it was a pain, but it's obviously handy for stills :-D

Ah nice work, don't think i would have the nerve to do that - i think there's a company in Germany? who have a hood removal service but it costs around £80 inc shipping.

Kinda wished i brought the Peleng now instead of the samyang since it gives 180 deg FOV straight out of the box.

Hi Steve

I did! Finally got a refund after a month for the other one... this came up for £150 and I actually really really like the fully circular image!

Zenitar was good, but this was fun to try out! Quality wise, the zenitar is better I think, slightly sharper BUT that said, I need to tweak the focus on the samyang slightly still!

A month! What a pain in the arse. It's a pity the Zenitar didn't work out but £150 for that Samyang is a great deal.

I often use my zenitar as a substitute for a ultra wide angle rectilinear with lightroom correction. But if I wanted the circular fisheye look I know what to get!

Yep, hassle!
I think that's what really put me off trying to find another.
And at £150 the samyang was a bargain and guaranteed to fit with no mirror issues etc!

hehe if I wanted WA I guess I would have gone for the 14mm but I'll only be using the lens as a true fish-eye lens so the round picture is perfect for what I want :)
