Samyang 12mm f/2.0 on Fuji X-Mount

Hi all

I'm after some advice on the Samyang 12mm for Fuji, it will be going onto my x-pro 1 and I understand its a manual lens.

Manual focus at this focal length I don't have a problem with however can you tell me how the exposure works on this? Is it full manual or is the camera able to work out shutter speeds for me?

Set your camera to aperture priority then select the aperture you want on the lens. The camera will then adjust the shutter speed (and iso if set to auto) for you. I use the 12mm F2 on my Sony A6000, it's a great lens.
 
Fantastic lens and yes the only difference with this is manual focus , everything else is like any other fuji lens
 
Had mine a few weeks and it's an excellent lens hoping to use it a little more this week.
 
Thank you all and thanks for the images Thunderbird, it was actually looking at your images in another thread that made me look at this Samyang at all. A few hours ago I hadn't even considered this but now scanning images on Flickr I'm ready to push the button.
 
Be aware it has very different colour transmission properties to Fuji lenses, can make a hell of a difference if you're mixing lenses and want everything to look the same. I sold mine in favour of a Fuji 14mm.

This is a very good point, I think that there is a rush when anyone first gets into landscape photography to shoot big and wide, when actually all that you (often) end up with are:-

1) Images where the centre focus becomes quite small - so you crop to make more appropriate
2) Images that need a lot of distortion correction
3) Images that have erroneous stuff in the corners as you didn't notice it when shooting the image! - so you crop to remove it
4) Images with loads of sky - so you crop (again)

So with all that cropping you might as well used a different lens in the first place!!!

Now there are places where 12mm and wider are appropriate, but I find that most of my landscapes are shot 14-23mm (21-35 FF equiv). IMHO all of the images in this thread would have looked just as good at 14mm or even 16mm

That said its like a right of passage that at some point you have to own an extreme UWA :)

One of the reasons I'd like to get it. I've seen some awesome wide angle night photos recently and I'd like to have a go.

Chris, Did you decide if you're selling your lens? I'll try to wait to hear from you before I buy a new one, but I can't promise anything. GAS is taking over!

Mark, I have decided to sell it, will get it listed later.
 
Looking at this lens too, has some great feedback from the pros, online at least! Just off to find the best used as new price!
 
Used to love this lens. On the xt1 you need to select "take a shot without a lens" somewhere in the menu and then the camera will work properly.
