Evening,

Posting on behalf of a colleague who has had a Galaxy S5 for a week. She has an issue where it is munching through the battery and EE are being absoulte nuggets...

I unplugged my Xperia Z1 at 5.30 this morning and at 11am had 89% left. She unplugged her S5 at about 7.30 and at same time down to 55%.. Have had a look and no GPS etc, battery hogging stuff being used...

Lunchtime today, she went back to EE in Norwich who eventually said would swap for a replacement (after I told her to use "not fit for purpose") in discussions..

However they flatly refuse to cancel contract, so my advice was fairly obvious given my track record...........

Just wondering if any other S5 users and if yours eats juice or is relatively unhungry!!!

The battery life of Tori's S4 is woeful compared my HTC One.....the bloatware running in the background on her phone is stupid.

12 months I've been telling her how crap her phone is. She loves me doing that.

Tell her to get an iPhone instead. Air time contract is a separate thing and it's a pain in the butt when you have a duff phone as you have few legal rights to cancel it.

Other things to try include turning off mobile data completely, setting it to not use 4g and turning off Bluetooth and wifi. I'd also get an app to see what is draining the power. Screen brightness is the biggest power drain I've noticed.

New phones often suck down battery for the first few charges as batteries take time to condition and the battery calculation systems seem to assume different usage.

Get Juice Defender app (free), extends battery life on my s3 mini and my wife's s3, should work on others.
Matt

Ask her to check what it says is draining her battery under the Battery heading in the menu. Larger screens due use more juice. So turning the brightness down will help. Tell her to uninstall facebook too. Thats a known issue.

The phone doesn't form part of the contract. This bit EE in the ass last year when they put their prices up giving people the opportunity to cancel contracts (that loop hole has no been closed)

It's background processes. They need disabling.

And EE are quite right not to cancel contract when there is currently no cause to do so.

The contract is not at fault as they are providing a signal. It's the manufacturer of the phone unfortunately in this instance. It must be the background apps but I'm astonished that it's creaming that much juice, larger screens do use more juice unfortunately but I'm happy with my Note 3, this thing gives me a week of standby or 3 days of good business use! iPhones are very poor on battery life unfortunately so don't go down that route! Have you tried a complete android reinstall?

I had a handy widget on my S3 to close all running apps. The battery life was pretty good after. Maybe the S5 has something similar? It closed apps I didn't even know were running.

I'm due to get the Xperia Z2 soon and I'm just expecting problems with it being a new phone. Mind you my Z and Z1 have been fine so far.

My S3 sometimes for no reason the battery take ages to charge, then next time its ok ?,i switch of most of the background stuff off,and my battery lasts quite a long time :)

my nokia lumia 925 is naff on battery as well, great phone but useless by about 1pm if i have to go into town
