I was just thinking how good my old samsung laser has been and today I notice it has a red light on and won't print anything. I can't even get it to print a status sheet. The web interface isn't working either. I have no idea what is up with it as it doesn't have a display of any kind. Network link light is on and it is flashing so it suggests that bit is working and I printed from it about 2 days ago. Only change is that the power has been off for electrical work a few times but that shouldn't cause issues should it??

I can't see any obvious paper jam. I've removed and re inserted paper tray. Opened up and closed most of the printer. It just sits there. Even turning it off and on again doesn't fix it.

It's still on the original starter toners. None of the lights are on to indicate any of those are even low.

I have absolutely no idea what is wrong with it and it hasn't got any way of telling me what's wrong with it. Best guess??

Found a possible cause. Finally got into the printer web wotsit and it's telling me the output bin is full. I'm assuming that is a waste toner bottle thingy?

Turn off the power for a few min then try again

If this doesn't work try re-installing the software/drivers again

Might help if you said what model number but you said laser, there is no such liquid waste bottle.

It refers to the output paper bin - the pile of printed pages! The sensor for that can apparently give a problem

Here is the only ref I could find. http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber....jsp?modelname=ML-2525W&from_osc=&idx=435186&

Searching based on your model number might reveal more specific info.......of course possible this "fault" is a symptom of other issues???

It's the CLP-300n. Which is in the title ;) There is a waste toner bottle. I've just bought one.

Ill check about the output sensor. Probably some dust.

Ooooops! It was late........that's my excuse and I am sticking to it  :$ as for the waste toner bottle, well I learn something new every day.

Hope you get sorted aok.

Output bin normally refers to the area the paper ends up. I'd not expect the waste toner to be full if you're on the original toner.

Could be a faulty sensor, lasers are full of them (normally with really fragile plastic switches). Is it reasonably new if you're on the original toner? Might be a warranty job.

Having a failed sensor is annoying. There should be an over ride though? If there isn't then that is utterly dumb as the printer is otherwise working perfectly. If samsungs only last a few thousand pages then they're crap, even if that's taken me many years!

It's at least 7 so well out of warranty. I think the waste toner thingy can get full in a few thousand pages so I was going to try that as it stops immediately, before it even tries to print anything.

Ref lifespan - I found one site where it said 100,000 pages or 5 years, whichever is the sooner!

Thanks. I'll have a mooch in the service manual. I really can't see how it tells whether the output tray is full at all. There's just a few plastic thingies.

It's just such a pathetic reason to stop making a printer work at all.

I've mooched in the service manual and there is nothing about some kind of sensor to see if there are too many sheets in the output pile. I'm sure I've printed until they were pushed onto the floor anyway.

I took out the waste toner thingy. Poured some toner out. Put it back. Green light back on. It's the waste toner being full. Dumb mac driver. Why it can't give the correct error is beyond me. I wonder how many people have thrown away perfectly good printers because of these silly errors?!

This is a long shot, but it worked with my Dell. Connect the printer via USB. Remove at least one toner cartridge. Switch on. Locate and download the latest firmware, and run it. Switch printer off, and reinsert toner cartridge(s). Restart and cross your fingers.

It's working now thankfully. It was just the waste toner thingy

I'd be slightly concerned that the waste bin was full while still on the original toner. Our units at work go through 1000s of copies without needing an empty.

Or its just an extremely inefficient printer.

Re Mac printer drivers - the bain of my life. Missing functionality, unstable os/app while printing, errors yadda yadda..

It could have just piled up in one corner. I should have shaken it really then put it rather than emptying some out.
