I am looking to upgrade my equipment and as I am thinking of moving from Olympus to Canon am looking to sell my existing gear. Would be grateful for any recommendations as to where I could sell it:thinking:

Well the first place I'd suggest would be the classifieds here (when you've met the requirements for accessing them). I've bought and sold here with only positive experiences.

There's also a few retailers who buy second hand gear, although I've never used any of them myself.

MPB photographic and FFordes are the first two that spring to mind, but I'm sure there's more.

...Camtech, mifsuds, T4, LCE, SRS...

you'll get a better price from a dealer if you are part exchanging - ie if you are buying your canon gear from them as well as selling the olympus stuff.

the other obvious route is ebay.

Mifsuds also buy second hand equipment / do part exchange

If you're near London, there are Aperture Photographic, RG Lewis, Jacobs did do second hand, this might continue, York Cameras, slightly further afield, Park Cameras in Burgess Hill

there's also eBay.

If you sell to a dealer, you will get a much lower price / px allowance than if you sell privately or on a commission sale through a dealer.

avforums is also worth trying no minimum posts to sell on there either.

MPB photographic
gave me a quote in a few minutes , although it assumed exec++ condition , was not to far off my expectations - I didnt sell in the end , so not sure how close the quote was to £££s in pocket

Jacobs and Calumet also deal with second hand gear.

I have sold 2 lots to MPB - Very pleased with both transactions and when compared to ebay got a great quote bearing in mind the fees charged there (ebay). MPB quote very quickly and even organise pickup of the kit , so all you have to do is package it securely and address it . The money was in my a/c within 3 days .

Yep, MPB have been nothing but fair and excellent in my dealings with them. Part ex is even better I think but I have only sold straight to them.

Mine was the same as the quote :)

Just spotted a second hand Nikon D90 Body for £516 :gag:

Prices all over the place on that site. They have one Nikon 17-55 at £900 and another at £480. The latter might be a bargain but I'm half wondering if it's in several pieces given the price discrepancy.

There'll be a good reason for one being half the price, it'll probably look like someone's been playing football with it....

not cheap on all items - so watch out
Canon 7D body £1020 - Wex £1099

Never said they were cheap, just another option. Pros and cons if it's an ex-rental piece.

when prices are that low alarm bells start to ring for me

yep, and me too - just need to find someone who has used

site has an address and phone number - which is often not found

although the post code resolves to this according to google http://www.mailboxuk.com/Home.asp?ContentID=5 which is an accomodation address with mailboxes

and 01283 is a burton on trent code - not wakefeild (you do have to wonder why someone who presumably lives in burton on trent is using a post resante service over an hour away in yorkshire

something is rotten in the state of denmark

just found this site on another forum
http://www.alexandertrent.com/acatalog/canon-digital-cameras.html

i have never used - but the prices are very very low and full UK warranty and VAT

The website is a brand new Godaddy one with the owners details blocked. In addition, phone number resolves to an address that seems to pop up all the time on the scam sites, 80 miles from the one given on the site....

i've sold to MPB too, highly recommended as they pick up your stuff without charging.

sold/part exed gear to Clifton Camers too. they also offer very good prices but only pick up for free if your stuff is valued over £200.
I've just part exed a lens i bought off here 5 months ago with them for more than i paid for it!!! result!!!

you'll most certainly get better prices selling your gear in classifieds, but you've got the added hassle that way.
