Right, so I've been offered an opportunity to crew and photograph a yacht trip to denmark, and obviously im not gonna pass it up! The question however is will my kit be up to it? I've got a d300s with 17-55 f2.8, a sigma 10-20 and a sigma 150 f2.8. Im not worried about the photos because i know they'll be ok, but how will it all hold up in sea salt spray and general environmnt? Anything i can do to help them out a bit?

Thanks

waterproof cover - can be as expensive as a full waterproof housing or as simple as a ziploc bag with a hole cut in it, UV filter on the front element. Try not to change lenses on deck , take a spare body , and get some insurance.

also don't forget you wont have charging facilities on board so take plenty of fully charged batteries

Depends on what sort of yacht, the weather, and how hard the boat is being pushed. As a safety though a few plastic bags and elastic bands would be handy in the absence of a specific waterproof housing. Make a hole poke the lens through and fasten with elastic band, operate from the back of the bag and keep a dry towel handy to mop up any water. Enjoy the trip.

Hi, I've recently completed a solo circumnavigation taking over 7000 photographs in the process. If I may suggest take along a polarising filter.

As to care if equipment nothing will keep your gear 100% dry, plenty of dry wipes to clean the salt off after every time you use your gear. You may not see it but it will be there.

Also, most yachts have a 12v accessory socket (car type) so if you have a 12v charger you'll be fine.

Hope that helps, have a great trip.

Thanks guys, I think you've pretty much confirmed what I thought. Looking forward to this now!

I think you will probably find you will be using the 10-20 lens a lot, as there isnt much space to manover on deck for photographs.
