Yes
Bank transfers, someone send you cash. Can they request it back, or its it in my account for good now? Unless i authorise its return.

I think it is possible for them to request it back.

Speak to your bank in the morning for a definitive answer.

It's in your account for good. The only way they can recover it is if you transfer it back. But if you're suspicious of the transfer leave it a day or two

being paid for something i've got to ship to Liverpool, won't send once its shown in my account, but once it has show then its safely in there?

Sent from personal account to personal account by the individual (for example, through faster payments via online banking)....no way they can pull that back without bank intervention and, in most cases, that's not an easy thing to do.

I assume you meant you 'will' send once the money is in your account?

Yes :)

Brilliant thanks guys!

This is what I find most annoying about buying on eBay or here, it's all about trust.
Spare a thought for the poor fella that sent you his hard-earned and you haven't sent out what he has bought!

When it's in your account, in a bank, it stays there.

To be fair to the OP and assuming this is a very recent transaction - how many post offices do you know open at this time on a Sunday evening? ;)

He is sending his hard earned cash, I'm sending my hard earned belongings? It's the same both ways.

Except you have his hard earned cash AND your hard earned belongings. Then you wonder if he is trustworthy:eek:

Not the same at all!

Agree, if your assumption is correct, however it's just been my experience that some folk appreciate a fast payment but don't exactly break a leg posting the item

You need to consider changing your bank then, that's ridiculous. I know with either my Lloyds or Nationwide account, if I paid cash in (or a cheque for that matter), I could log in on my iphone to internet banking before I left the building and it would be showing as paid in. In the case of cash, it would also be available to spend then too. 3 days in this day and age is ridiculous.

Security is nil, all about trust although I have done it myself, but only after some research and hard thought. I don't bank online, but have paid cash in over the counter which registers straight away in the vendors account

Thankfully the classifieds on here are very good and would think the number of dodgy deals is a tiny percentage of all transactions.

Always try to ensure you have the other persons name and address, landline number is advisable too

Just because a cheque is shown in your balance does not mean you can draw on it straight away.

Also of you do pay it direct into the account over the counter, you get the details from the seller, you can check that name, address do match what is in the account  all you have to do is ask the casher if the details you have match those on the account, they can say yes or no

That's a good idea, why should I lose out, so easy to do quickly and efficiently nowadays too.

You miss understand me though, its only the internet page design that stops it showing, it can be drawn or checked on if im in the bank, however I'm never in the bank and just want to be able to check payment efficiently on line. ..Fact is I've already chosen my bank for other ethical reasons and they will hopefully upgrade the software a some point Id guess, no bigi.

Largely true. But there are some rare cases where it can be pulled back. If, for example, the sending bank account had been hacked or the funds to pay the transaction had come from a stolen/forged bank draft (that's one variant of how advanced fee fraud works).

BTW most people don't know that bank drafts can bounce. There is no secure way to transfer money.
